Red Sand

Red sand is found in the area near 0,0. It is dug up from the ground in the same manner as cuttable stone. Just start digging a hole as you normally would, and eventually red sand will appear in the place of stones. Red sand is very heavy: each unit has 15 weight and 1 bulk.

Red sand is primarily smelted into quicksilver using standard ore smelting techniques, but it is also used in alchemy as a component of several tinctures, as well as an ingredient in paint. It is also a component of the alloy Metal Blue.

Red sand probably corresponds to the mineral cinnabar, a dark red crystalline substance that is -- in real life, as in ATITD -- the primary ore of mercury.
