Sea Lily Genetics

This is a page under progress, being based on some data from Qetesh's stresses, hybrids, + discussion and data from the [Ra's Garden of Eden]? flower guild.

Sea Lily Coloring

Sea Lily Genomes

Delicate XXX...XXXXDDDD
Deep Ghost
Kudzu
Nectar
Reflection

Some random notes

- Petals seem to consistent of 4 letter genes, and stamens seem to consist of at least 2, but can me more, interacting sets of genes. For example, with stamens you would see something like: DDCCAA, where A affects upper 2 stamen tier colors, C affects 3rd tier color and also separation from fourth tier color (normally the top 2 and bottom two stamen tiers segregate together), and D affects fourth tier colors. So, stamen genes seem to be highly imbedded.

- Sea lily genomes are BIG - at least 32 letters long in the case of nectar.

- All Kudzu 1st generation hybrids obtained so far have fertilization times intermediate between normal sea lilies (48) and Kudzu (24) - they seem to be around 32 or so fertilizations. This is consistent regardless of which splint Kudzu is on - which is odd, if Sea Lilies follow Rose of Ra genetics.

- Stressing and color system work the same way in sea lilies as in roses.

- Sizes: dwarf and normal, and dwarfx2 obtained via stress & cross breeding, via: 4xright delicate X delicate.
giant size created by inverting the dwarf gene found on delicate (Djehuty)

- After a couple of tests CrossBreeding NORMAL size lilies using Nut's Essence it would seem that: Left Splint = Upper Half of plant (Stamen), Right Splint = Lower Half of plant (Petals). It seems as though the dwarf (delicate) variety is the reverse of this but neither of these hypothese have been tested enough to be certain. (Tribisha) [This is because of how genes are arranged in sea lilies, especially nectar, and is not true for all sea lilies. Only Reflection and Nectar seem to have orderly behavior like this. Kudzu and delicate especially have a somewhat random arrangement of genes: i.e. going left you would see something like: stamen stamen stamen stamen, petal petal petal, stamen stamen stamen stamen, petal etc. Odd. - Qetesh.)
