Sculpture

A sculpture requires 100 boards, 10 rope, and 4 linen to build the frame plus whatever materials you choose to create your sculpture.

Sculptures allow you to locate up to 24 objects in 3d space, rotated at any angle, to create viewable art for others to see/vote on.

Getting 20 positive votes passes the initiation.

Construction costs:

Built: in a compound, uses 17x21 cells

Skill/Tech required: Must be signed up for the Initiation into Art

For persons who really enjoy art, this is an interesting medium. You are not limited to just 24 objects, but if you use more, you will have to build another base for another 100 boards, 10 rope, and 4 linen. You can use the title variable to store a message of what to click on to vote on the project. Also, apparently the more groups of 24 that you add, the more difficulty the interface has in retaining accurate storage of where each object goes when it rebuilds it. Sometimes if the pieces get misaligned when you approach your art, you will have to stand near the limits of where it is viewable and have it rebuild several times before the interface gets it right. Be sure to do this before you edit your work, or you will be constantly moving things back and forth because of the interface. (Another solution is to encourage the game makers to improve their interface.)

Art projects have low visability ranges and the roped in box area is what sets the visability circle for your project. If you want to put your project on a hill and still have it visible from the road, locate your boxed-in-area closer to the road. (I do not know the limit of how far you can locate an object outside of your box, but it is considerable.

If you use multiple roped in areas of 24 pieces, do not overlap them. Keep them separate and make sure you document what pieces go in each group or you will have difficulty editing your project later. Try to place all the pieces of one component (head, wings, body, sides, fronts, backs, etc)of the work into one group. (I would recommend that you not use all 24 pieces in a group unless necessary - you may need to add something later.) Then make a final group for last minute (forgotten, overlooked, new ideas) items (punch list) to complete the project. The more pieces in the project, the more you may wish to be concerned about the appearance of the support bars.

If you locate your art near a road or in a town, it will more likely be viewed, but then sometimes towns lack the land features you need for your work. The question is: if a work is good enough, will people come to see it? Do you care if people come to see it (especially if you're doing it for the sake of art)? Do you want to incorporate the sun or the moon in your work for a screen shot. If so building in a populated area may not be possible. (It would really be nice if you could make your char disappear for close-up screen shots of your work)

Enthusiasts who use this medium will be interested in encouraging the game makers to get the art for every new shape or object up and available as soon as possible. Little pink blocks are not satisfactory.

What do people think about establishing art parks? What guidelines should prevail for such parks? What other art mediums could be incorporated. Example: (Sculpture with tools similar to what we do now with tool making, 2-dimensional art (viewable from cartographers cam only). How can we get better control over color options for the pieces used?
