You do not have to be present during the whole vigil (which will probably take a number of hours), however we will make sacrifices (sacs) in turn for those that are available and therefore those people will get more points.
We will use the RSO pier altar, which is quite close to the guild and the cs.
A vigil is the best possibile way to get rid of your resources, to literally see them go up in smoke. You just throw them into the fire and watch them burn. The big problem is there is no way to know what will be requested and so what to have ready. You can find lists on the wiki of what people have been asked for, but there appears to be no pattern, apart from the fact that cheaper resources tend to be required at the beginning, with a few medium ones in between easy ones.
You have two hours to make each sacrifice. Requests for sacs start at 20 min intervals and then shorten. Eventually, a sac will be requested which you feel is just too expensive to throw on a fire and you will decide to stop once all existing requests have been met.
You may want to collect resources near the altar. Unless your compound is right beside the altar, be ready with enough tt to wp home a number of times to get things you may not have brought.
