Guilds > Standard Deviants

A new guild in RSO that's looking to ride out the end of Tale 2 and have some fun before the next Telling.

You may (or may not) recall House of Fun from Tale 1 - many of the same members. No Calchas or khephren this go around, but Sappling, Seratet, and Matk are back for another go. And we picked up a few other people to boot (/me waves to SanSue.).

Standard Deviants main contribution to the face of Egypt this Telling is obelisks. After we got done setting up a compound and some basic tools, we worked on various projects for a few weeks then turned to making an obelisk. This quickly turned into full-blown obsession with us. How many other camps in Egypt have 31 greenhouses? I dare say zero, but if non-zero, I bet it's few. The most I've ever seen, even in public areas is 12. Why do we need 31 greenhouses, you ask? Simple, really. When you have 10 camels pens that you usually keep at 1M/4F and tend daily, you consume a massive amount of straw (maybe about 18-20k/day). We need them though, you wouldn't accumulate leather at any sort of reasonable rate without em.

Right now our front yard contains an impressive array of Arch buildings. Imagine four 267+ cubit obelisks in a line. Between them we have an Octec, a small house, and a funerary temple. I think that small house is Sappling's favorite thing in the whole game. And laid out in a row in front of the houses are pairs of monumental towers - Hand of Man, Living Land, Solid Land, and Racing Mind. It really looks pretty sweet.

Wow, you say. Obelisks and monumental towers take a ton of bricks. Yeah, that's why we have 20 brick machines. And partially why we have 31 greenhouses. Anyway, since we're suffering from madness, we're accumulating materials for one GIANT obelisk to put a cap on this telling. I laugh maniacally and mutter, "1,000 cubits..." but Sappling says we should shoot for 600 cubits [editors note - more like 850 cubits!]. In the end we decided to just crank out as much bricks, boards, small emeralds, canvas, cactus sap, sulfur and dirt as we can, then build as big as we can at THE END. Donations gladly accepted :) (why dirt you ask? We need more greenhouses *cackle*)

Seratet and Matk have a lovely formal garden (2 gazebos) just north of our compound. It features a smorgasborg of our crossbreeds arranged in a walkway leading to our gazebos. We've got a few obelisks and monumental towers tossed in to beautify. Seratet's citrus trees give the garden plenty of shade from the Egyptian sun. And at night 31 decorative torches light the way. Yeah, that's right, I do my best to keep 31 decorative torches lit 24 hr/day. They burn for 10 hours each time you add oil. In the past two weeks, they've only been out for a few hours so far. [update - well, I'm not quite as rabid about keeping them lit, but still do it twice a day for the most part]

Final note - We built an 850 cubit obelisk. The thing is a monster, made us proud.

Obelisk planning.

Monumental towers planning.

Mechanics planning.
