Egypt's third great Scarab Duel is scheduled to take place at 21:00 UTC/GMT on Sunday 1st January at the Pharoah's Bay Scarab Arena (-1155 7896). Thanks to everybody who came to the last event, it was a great sucess. This time we've ironed out some bugs (excuse the pun), and tightened up the whole system. Things should run faster, more smoothly and be more enjoyable all round. We're hoping that people will be donating prizes as generously as last time! Thanks - Kaotika
Scarab Duelling
Citizens of Egypt - It is my great honour to announce Egypt's newest sport - for artists, gamblers and bloodthirsty combat seekers Egypt-wide. Scarab Dueling is now upon us - the first great arena having been uncovered by our architects in the fair region of Pharoah's Bay (-1155 7896). It appears that this game was once extremely popular amoungst many Egyptians, and was viewed as both an exciting past-time and a way to perhaps win the beetle of your dreams...
.
The Rules
- To take part, players must submit a beetle to the event coordinator up to ten minutes before the event, but no sooner than an hour before.
- All submissions will be accepted and processed by the event coordinator at the duelling arena, northwest of the Pharoah's Bay chariot stop.
- Anybody with any sort of beetle may take part, and you may bring multiple beetles - however you are limited to submitting one per round, and priority will be given to players who have not yet taken part.
- When the event commences, all observers will be asked to stand well clear of the arena, and only the event coordinators will have permission to stand within the cofines of the arena.
How does it work?
Scarab Duelling is a game of chance, in which players have the opportunity to gamble their beetles in the hopes of winning something an impressive beetle to take home. It works as follows:
- Submitted beetles will be 'judged' prior to the event by the event team. They will then be categorized into different 'leagues', based on percieved quality. This reduces the risk of people losing high quality beetles in a match of low quality ones, and encourages people to submit better beetles in order to win better beetles...
- The Event Coordinator will clear the arena and stand in the center, while the event team will attend the outer circle of the arena. The first round of 14 beetles will be released into the center of the arena, and will be left to 'fight'.
- The first beetle to leave the inner arena circles and touch the other ring will be declared the winner of the round.
- The event team will collect the winning and remaining beetles from the arena.
- The winner has the opportunity to choose any beetle of his or her liking that took part in that round and claim it as his or her own.
- The rest of the beetles will be redistributed to the original owners, and the next round will commence.
Notes: The judge's (the event coordination team) decisions are always final. Bear in mind that things such as lag and camera angles will affect everybody's perception of the outcome, and thus the team's decision shall be held to in each case.
We are also likely to throw in spontaneous 'special' rounds that will work differently, such as one-on-one duels, beetle tag and beetle lottery. These will be announced and explained at the time.
Prizes!
We're hoping to also provide prizes for our winners, although we're heavily relying on kind donations here. If anybody would like to bring anything along - Prize winning and impressive beetles especially good - we would very much appreciate your assistance. Anything you can give would be very well recieved.
Thanks to all those who pledged prizes for our first and second events. They really spiced it up! All donations are very warmly recieved, and with personal thanks from all those involved in running the event.
Special thanks go especially to Zomboe and Cathy13 for thier extremely generous contributions!
Let me play now!
The third great Scarab Duel is scheduled for
21:00 UTC/GMT on Sunday 1st January
Beetle registration will begin hone hour before the event. Entries will be taken up until 10 minutes before the event is due to start. Simply come along with a beetle or two, and our friendly events team will talk you through the procedure when you arrive.
Doesn't this void the Test of Khefre's Children? (Beetle Breeding Art Test)
Don't worry, we've thought about this long and hard. Due to the way that beetle ownership works, winning a prize beetle will not allow you to 'cheat' the test and pass by using it, as players cannot exhibit beetles that are 0% theirs. Thus, winning a good beetle provides you with a good breeding base, as well as renewing interest and excitement in a test that can sometimes drag on a little when you're trying to breed that perfect beetle!
