How to use it

Download and unpack to a directory of your choice.
When the Cooking Assistant (CA) starts up, you will see 2 lists of ingredients. The one on the left controls which ingredients you will allow CA to use. The list on the right allows you to select some ingredients that you do want in the recipe. In both lists, a percentage is displayed next to the name. This percentage shows how well known that particulat ingredient is. The more known, the more likely it is that CA will be able to get some positive duration from that ingredient.

You can also indirectly control how big a recipe you want. The most important for this are the "Top Layer" and "Maximum layer". A "Layer" is a group of ingredients that are used in the same amount in the recipe. Generally speaking, you want as few layers as possible. The top layer is the layer with the most ingredents in it. Very generally speaking, the final recipe will contain a number of servings equal to about 1-3 times the top layer. Normally, you will want to leave some room below the bottom layer, so yu can add your nutrients there.

When you are happy with your selection in the lists, click go. CA will start searching for good recipes using the ingredients, you selected. It will not stop searching. You need to do that yourself, when you are happy with the result - or just won't wait anymore. If you don't like the recipe, it suggests, click go again. It will most likely find a different recipe this time.

Note of warning: The data we have about food items is continuously getting more comprehensive and more accurate. There are errors in it, though. Therefore, i strongly recommend testing a base before using it for an expensive recipe.

How to interpret the output

The output will look something like this:
Searching...
Best so far: 0:-18:14 [gen. 1]
Best so far: 0:-1:26 [gen. 2]
[...]
Best so far: 1:50:31 [gen. 4034]
Layer 10: iron knot,honey,leeks,peasant's foot,carrots,toad skin,onions,
0:31:38
Layer 9: cabbage,carp,watermelon,abdju,nefertari's crown,phagrus,chromis,camel meat,camel's mane,
0:38:01
Layer 8: dates,scorpion's brood,catfish,mutton,
0:15:34
Layer 7: garlic,colt's foot,dung rot,cobra hood,perch,camel milk,cabbage juice,tilapia,grilled fish,rabbit meat,coconut meat,
0:25:17
Total: 1:50:31

What this means is that you should use

In this specific example, herbs or other mushrooms can be added in quantities up to 6 without ruining the base.

Other stuff

As of version 1.18, CA can produce a (mostly) human-readable table that shows the known pairs between all the selected ingredients. Simply select the ingredients you want to know about and press the Durations button.

File support

From version 1.21, CA can read and write files with ingredient lists. The format created when you Copy the contents of a chest is supported.

Files can be loaded in 3 ways:

How to help improve it

The data that is behind is found in the Table. Please help fill in the blanks - or donate food items to the Cooking Research Coordination guild (donation chest at 2315,2303 in RSO) The Cooking Research Coordination Guild continuously expands this data. Feel free to either apply for the guild - or to donate food materials for research (chat a member for details).

Full source for CA can be found at http://sourceforge.net/projects/atitd2ca

Thanks

Djehuty for the Linux version.
FaceAnkh for maintaining the data files.
greaterd for the initial file support.
