Hackling Rake
The Hacking Rake is an upgraded Flax comb used to process rotten flax into Straw, Tow and Lint. It cannot be built until you have nails, so the prerequisite to construction is blacksmithing. It must be built inside a compound.
To Build
Construction costs:
Built: inside a compound (Projects/Flax Related).
Building Area: 5 X 7 squares.
Skill/Tech required: Flax Processing
To Use
- Process 10 rotten flax into 10 straw on the 1st step (45/60 secs END timer);
- Process 10 tow on the 2nd step (45/60 secs END timer);
- Process 10 lint on the 3rd step (45/60 secs END timer);
- Clean the flax comb (no timer, but cannot be done while your END timer is active).
Notes (these notes apply to the Hackling Rake as well)
- You can skip step 3 if you don't need lint. This lets you produce more tow before the comb wears out. (You can skip step 2 as well, but then you're effectively growing flax just to get straw, and that's silly.)
- Rotten flax is taken directly from your inventory in step 1. If you have less than 10, the comb will use what you have and produce less straw/tow/lint accordingly.
- Hackling rakes wear out after about 100 cycles. My first rake lasted 103 cycles -- OldJoe, I have had rakes last between 103 and 111 cycles (1030 to 1110 rotten flax) -- SanderDolphin
== UPGRADE==
- You can add 2 eyelet of the same type gem (looks like any gem as long as both are the same) this cuts the End timer to 30 sec, Don't know if it also Slows down Wear and tear Please Post if anything is noticed (found by Lord Zaniac)--Rauul
- Brand new rake with upgrade lasted 108 cycles for me. ~Karriellyn
- In Tale 2, upgrading a hackling rake like that would double the lifespan. --Sedelyan
- We had a hackling rake that had already been used quite a bit before it was upgraded. Once it was upgraded I managed to get 110 cycles out of it before it broke. - Ptelah
- As of December 2007 the upgrade does not appear to affect the lifespan of the rake. I had a hackling rake with 48 cycles used before the upgrade break 53 cycles after the upgrade (101 cycles total). --Trislan
