Digging Events

Explanation from the Events channel

Kaayru: Welcome all!
Kaayru: I'm here to explain how a digging event works, and how scores are calculaed. Then I'll answer all your questions.
Kaayru: So, in a digging event like the one we will have this sunday, there are 2 categories of participants: The Organizers and the Diggers.
Kaayru: The Organizers: Their scores is the total of *Cuttable Stones* dug in their hole. If someone starts more than one hole, the scores don't add up. Only the best hole count.
Kaayru: The Diggers now: Their scores is a bit more complicated - it's number of stones dug up times number of friends they dug with.
Kaayru: The optimal strategy is probably not to dig with the same group of people for the whole day... But rather, find different groups, and dig for a short time with each.
Kaayru: Dig organizers have a different strategy - you do want people to stay at your event for a long time. A bit of a paradox. :)
Kaayru: Questions? :)
Quinoa: food allowed?
Kaayru: Yep.
Spicy: So if a hole closes and the organiser opens a new one, they start over in points? So their aim is to not allow the hole to close?
Kaayru: If the organizers starts a new hole, only the best hole will count in their score (if the second hole score is better than the first one, this will be their score)
Kaayru: SO yes, the goal is to keep a hole alive. :)
Quinoa: what is the time limit?
Kaayru: The event will last 24 hours (check your calendar - Kush-Aid Digging Contest (1d)). :)
Quinoa: going to be some really tired organizers :)
Kaayru: Absolutly. :)
Myna: is it possible to start the next event on a Saturday your time?
Myna: sorry I mean a Friday - as the Kush event is a Sunday night for some of us?
Kaayru: Well we actually try to vary the times, but we keep that in mind :)
Quinoa: what happens with all the stone afterwards? (Great Pyramid anyone?)
Kaayru: You keep the stones
Kaayru: Another good strategy for diggers is to stay at one hole and dig as many stones as possible. If they travel around Egypt, they lose time and will dig less stones... But if they stay at the same hole, they won't dig with a lot of people. You have to find the best strategy...
Pegasus79: but that means as a digger you wnat people with good stats and shovels?
Kaayru: As an organizer you mean? Well, sort of - your score is how many cuttable stone you get from your hole, and good stats + good shovels = more efficient work. But maybe the organizers should provide that to diggers, too.
Kaayru: A detail... The one building the hole is defined as the organizer. So only one organizer per hole.
