Zomboe's Gemcutting Contest updates:
October 24th: Tamutnefret has cut the first Zombone! The next Zombone wins a 9.7k shovel.
November 4th: Tamutnefert has cut the first Zomboe's Blade! The next Zomboe's Blade wins a 9.7k hatchet.
Since the Megalopolis test has caused a resurgence of gemcutting, I'd like to provide two new cuts for people to try for. To that end I am officially announcing the start of Zomboe's Gemcutting Contest! The rules are simple: the first person to cut one of my custom gemcuts (the Zombone and Zomboe's Blade) will get a 9.8k hatchet or shovel!
The gemcuts are on display in the green bird shaped building south of the Karnak chariot stop, at 1383 -929. In front of the display tables are two public gemcutting tables, if you'd like to cut with the goal in view, though I wouldn't recommend leaving anything on them. To win a prize, either show me the cut on a table or give me a specimen case that's holding it. Either way, you get to keep the gem (and specimen case), though we could work something out if you'd also like to sell it. Please chat me when you have cut one, I live in Karnak but I can go to other regions.
The first person to show me a Zombone cut wins a 9.8k shovel (Tamutnefret has won this), while the second place prize is a 9.7k shovel. First for the Zomboe's Blade is a 9.8k hatchet, second is 9.7k hatchet. I also plan to print some commemorative certificates which I should have soon, and probably some random cuttable gems too. The hatchets and shovels will have a name along the lines of "Gemcutting Master <your name here>" or something better if anyone has any suggestions :). If you don't want them you are welcome to resell them, 9.8k hatchets and shovels are very rare and should be quite valuable.
It's been a tradition of mine to cut both a Zombone and Zomboe's Blade each telling since I created them in T1. They are quite rare and somewhat tricky, but certainly possible. The Zombone weighs 16 carats, the Zomboe's Blade is 12 carats. Each actually has two mirror versions, and either is acceptable for this contest, of any gem type. If you end up cutting one and it ties up your table let me know, I can lend you a specimen case. Oh and I realize the names of the cuts aren't great so name suggestions are quite welcome :).
The contest will run until I run out of prizes (so two Zombones, two Zomboe's Blades).
