Herbiculture

Herbiculture allows one to grow herbs from herb seeds randomly obtained from successful foraging. The chance of finding herb seeds when foraging a plant is currently estimated at 5%-20%. This skill requires Foraging to be able to get the herb and the herb seed from the plant, as it requires a successful harvest to be able to randomly get seeds. It becomes available with the unlocking of the tech Herbiculture. One must first have the first level of Botanical Identification before seeds will be yielded from a successful forage.

Growing Locations

According to Egypt's scientists, "... herb seeds grow only near active (wet) aqueducts". They "are entirely location dependant, and there may only be a handful or regions in Egypt which, if irrigated, would support a given herb.

Herb-growing regions are specific to a given foraging method - in other words, an aqueduct that permits the growth of one kind of seed with 'pick out the seeds' as its foraging method will support all herbs with 'pick out the seeds'. Once planted, the number of deben that harvesting will yield gradually increases to 7 over approximately 4 minutes; at approximately 4 min 30 seconds, the plant will disappear.

A map of known growing spots can be found at Locations.

Additional research and exploration is needed to uncover more growing spots, and to build towers at known spots that do not have one.

OLD RESEARCH AND EXPLORATORY INFORMATION

Karnak

After Herbiculture Experiments 1 unlocked in Karnak:

Karnak says: "We first determined that herb seeds grow only near active (wet) aqueducts - that part was already known to many. We also discovered that cultured herbs are entirely location dependant, and there may only be a handful or regions in Egypt which, if irrigated, would support a given herb. Yet somehow, there were tantalizing clues that the situation is not so grim. We discovered that Honey Mint grows reliably near aqueduct tower at 950, 6561, for instance. Perhaps further experiments by other universities and by our top citizens scientists would expand knowledge on this subject."

Honey Mint has the harvest method of scrape off the stem pith.

After Herbiculture Experiments 1 unlocked in Kush:

Lower Egypt

Lower Egypt says: "We first determined that herb seeds grow only near active (wet) aqueducts - that part was already known to many. We also discovered that cultured herbs are entirely location dependant, and there may only be a handful of regions in Egypt which, if irrigated would support a given herb. Perhaps further experiments by other Universities and by our top citizen scientists would expand knowledge on this subject."

Khartoum

After Herbiculture Experiments 1 unlocked in Khartoum:

Khartoum says: "We have expanded our research efforts to cover locations not near existing aqueduct towers. Instead, we have focused on the ecology for various parts of Egypt, specifically the soil. After conducting a number of soil experiments, we are quite confident that should a tower be built in Egypt near 3970 -1159, Dalchini seed should easily grow nearby."

Dalchini has the harvest method of pick out the seeds.
