Gearbox Exchange

Although listed on the guild pages of the wiki, no guild named "Gearbox Exchange" exists at this time. The intent is to have a neutral place (this page) to post gearboxes available for rent in order to facilitate efficient quarrying operations.

Basic rules for the exchange:

• Use the format below for listing gearboxes; it allows cut-and-paste into a spreadsheet for sorting (paste as unicode)
• When renting, please return gearboxes promptly to allow the owner to rent to the next person (should be able to finish pulling in a day)
• All deals are between the owner of the gearbox and the renter

Costs of Rental Gearboxes and Quarries

There are a few philosophies on determining shares for quarries and for pricing gearboxes.

Marble Sharing Options

1. All marble is split evenly between pullers (4 shares for 4 pullers)
2. All marble is split evenly between pullers and quarry owner (5 shares for 4 pullers)
3. Marble is split evenly between pullers; quarry owner gets remainder (4 shares for 4 pullers, 0-3 marble to owner)

Gearbox Pricing Options

1. Gearbox owner(s) paid a full share as if gearbox were separate puller
2. Gearbox owner(s) paid a 1/2 share
3. Gearbox owner(s) paid 1 marble from the quarry
4. Gearbox owner(s) paid 1 marble for a 1-output gearbox, 2 marble for a 2- or 3-output gear box to reflect greater cost.
5. Gearbox owner(s) paid some higher rate if large gears required to meet output requirements

Examples:
1. Joe has an OSM quarry, and two other pullers. He and his pullers agree on sharing the marble by option 3. He must rent one gearbox. If he can find a one-output gearbox (like Potamo's A167), he would pay 1 marble rent, if Potamo agreed with gearbox pricing option #3 or 4. The pulling group gets 17 marble. They pay Potamo 1 OSM, then split the remaining 16 three ways. 16/3 = 5, with a remainder of 1. Each puller (including Joe) gets 5 OSM. Joe gets the one remaining OSM as the quarry owner.

2. Fred has a MG quarry, and will dual-log his in-game spouse to pull. Since they share possession, marble sharing is moot. Fred rents two gearboxes for this effort, using pricing option #4. He rents Ur-man's B386 F231 H231 for the primary, and Potamo's C322 D463 H556 for the secondary. Since both of these are 3-output boxes, he will pay 2 marble rent, each. He pulls 17 marble, pays Ur-man 2 MG, Potamo 2 MG, and shares 13 MG with his spouse.
