Communication
This page aims to outline a variety of ways in which you can keep on top of what's happening in Egypt, and get involved with the wider community.
In Game Communication...
Regional Chat
Each region hosts its own regional chat that automatically activates (or switches) when you enter the region.
- Regional Chat provides an excellent means for new members to communicate with established players.
- Honest questions are well regarded. If you have a newbie-type question there's a good chance that somebody will have a ready answer.
- Regional Chat is the perfect venue for "Does anybody know where ....?" type questions.
- It's not the right place for idle chatter with your friends.
- Oafish behavior in the Regional Chat channel is self destructive. You will be noticed, but you won't get very many subsequent invitations to join the various guilds.
- Regional Chat is a convenient way to communicate information to folks who live in the area, such as a Papyrus planting run or the location of oyterbeds and new sculptures.
The Regional Chat channel can get pretty busy and, because the bursty nature of the message downloads can make your client stumble, folks often close the Regional Chat tab when they are engaged in lag sensitive tasks. If someone is growing veggies or firing charcoal they're probably not monitoring Regional Chat, so it's
not a reliable means of contacting a specific player.
Your Friends List
You can type '/af name' and '/rf name' in any chat channel to add and remove friends. It's best, however, to use Main, as a mistyped 'rf name' (you forgot the slash) can be pretty embarassing.
F11 opens your friends list. If you hit F11 a second time the filter will show just those friends who are currently online. A third F11 closes the list. You can only track a maximum of 50 friends.
Microphones
There are a variety of microphones in the game run by different guilds an organizations. They act as global chat tabs, though they require a moderator to confirm and post the messages that are sent to the channel. Some act as global chat channels, some for trade in specifics commodities, etc.
Channels can be joined by typing '/join channelname'.
Arguably, the most useful and active channel is 'E!'. It's a general, quasi-global chat channel for anything and everything. 'RTrade' is also very useful for buying, selling and bartering.
More information can be found on the Microphones page.
Guilds
Egypt is full of guilds! Joining a guild gives you access to its chat tab, and any buildings or resources that may be available to you at your current rank within them.
A number act as large chat guilds - some for specific purposes, and some just for general chat.
You can type '/info guildname' for more information, including location, membership and guild info.
You can join up to 50 guilds in game, without any drawbacks or limitations (other than loss of screen space due to excessive chat tabs!).
- Recommended chat guilds:
- 'Wretched Hive Of Scum And Villainy' - 'rough and course' conversation quite likely, only joining requirement is that you're a paid account.
- 'Desert Sands Resort and Spa (DSRaS)' - Clean and friendly chat, joining requirement is 700 boards.
