Guidelines
Guidelines are here to help you enjoy the game, make things better for everyone, and to reduce the amount of frustration that you're probably going to feel if you're doing online gaming for the very first time.
They will also make your guilds work environment a much friendlier and nicer place to work in for you and other players.
Gaming Etiquette
- Most people in ATITD are of a higher-than-average age compared to most other online games. Treat each other with courtesy and you'll find that most people are willing to offer help, be it advice or other sorts of help. There are very few 'griefers', etc, on the mainland, and those that there are tend not to last long in such a close-knit and supportive society.
- Conversations are text-based so feelings can run really high if you're typing out extremely short sentences. For this reason, please type using full sentences. Fragmented text can be very awkard to keep track of, especially during busy periods, and results in "spamming" the general guild chat window.
- Misinterpretations are very common in the game, resulting in disagreements or, at the very worst, lifelong game enemies. Be patient and re-read the sentences. Do not jump to conclusions so fast. Always work it out with the other person.
Guild Manners
- If you see a piece of equipment in operation, such as a distaff, consider before you do not stop it or remove products from it. The chances are that the owner has simply gone to perform another task while they wait for the operation to finish. Communication is key.
- After you're finished working on an apparatus please clean it up so others don't have to. Take out all the unused materials and stash them somewhere, fix or rebuild the machine if it's broken. This will save everyone time as they won't have to take the things out themselves or worry if the materials inside are still needed for somebody. This especially applies to Anvils, Gem cutting tables, Glory holes and similar equipment.
- Please don't stash things into the wrong chests. They are labeled for a reason. If it says 'Metal Products' on the chest, try to avoid putting flax in it! If you can't find a chest to stash the things you need, build a new one and label it according to what you'll be putting in it. Though if you really want to put a multitude of different things, you can always label the chest 'Misc items' or something like that.
- Instead of asking fellow guild members to give you equipment that you may need, why not try asking how that equipment is produced instead? The knowledge of how to produce the items is infinitely more valuable in the long-term than a quick-fix of free goods. "If you give a man a fish, you will feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you will feed him for a lifetime." -Confucious.
- If you feel tired of doing the same task over and over again, you can do more than one task at the same time, eg making ash while digging for dirt at the same time. It pays to do a different thing everyday.
Misc Guidelines
- If you feel unhappy about anything or anyone in-game, its a good idea to let your guild Elders know so that they can help you out. It's better to speak out your mind rather than keep it to yourself. Hopefully, you'll be able to find a amicable solution.
- Remember, anyone can edit and update the wiki. If you feel that you have something to contribute, and you're not sure how to, get in touch with an elder or etablished community member who will talk you through using the wiki!
