Tips N' Tricks
This page will be home to general advice on how to speed up repetitive tasks and chores, macros, and external programs to make life a little easier!
Using Hotkeys
Many actions on buildings are followed by a letter in brackets, eg, '[x]'. So, how do I use this miracle of modern technology?
- Open 'Utilities: Options: Chat Related'
- Enable the 3rd and 4th options in the list
- Press enter to disable your chat interface
- Mouse over the building (don't click)
- Press the [H]otkey that corresponds with the action.
This is an incredibly good timesaver, and can, for example, be used to run a large number of Carpentry Shops at once for maximum board production.
General Tips N' Tricks
- Conversations
Conversations don't proceed at the spoken pace that you may be used to. Folks may not "answer the phone" immediately if they are running several pieces of equipment or are reading the wiki. Think of text messages rather than phones. Type /ts in your message box to activate a timestamp, so that you can avoid the embarrassment of responding to a question that was asked hours ago.
Don't ask questions like "Is SuzyQ still on?" Use /info <name> instead. Likewise, don't blather on in Regional Chat. Ask good questions and you'll get good responses. If you give us stream-of-conscience about the wonders of growing your own flax, you'll get grumpy responses.
- Don't get lost!
Set your home location using your navigation menu. You can then use your 'pray for leadership home' option to get a pointer in the right direction. Also consider setting Landmarks, which will show up on the F3 map.
Type /clockloc in your message box to get a nice floating toolbar with the in-game date (in-game time-of-day is three times as fast as smelly time) and your current location.
- Old Egypt (and Nile Green) Flax are primitive.
Months of crossbreeding, genetic mutation and genome research has resulted in much more potent strains of flax. Ask a guildee, or hunt through the guild chests to find some seeds.
- Carpentry Shops
Are much easier to use than wood planes. They can automatically plane 50 boards while you do other nearby tasks, or you can use hotkeys to run a large number at a time. Note, however, that they require a crafted metal carpentry blade in order to function - Global Mentoring elders should keep a stash of these at Global Mentoring compounds in order to keep guild Carpentry Shops running. (...And donating a handful of these is a great way to give something back when you've got yourself settled in and established...)
Macros
Egenesis' policy states that you are allowed to run Macros in the game, as long as they are 'attended'. So, feel free to use the following to speed things up and save your wrists, but don't wander off from your computer while they're running. If a GM questions you, you must prove that you are there and active by responding in a timely manner.
- CarpShop.exe : Automatically run any number of Carpentry Shops using Hotkeys - (Standalone EXE)
- Slate.exe : Automatically detects when the slate icon is present and harvests - (Standalone EXE)
- Anka's Macros: I reccomend the Charcoal Hearth and Oven macros! Note that most of these require you to install and run ACTool.
