Anyone that knows how to get a smaller portion of a map please chat me in-game or send me a private chat via the forums as to how to go about doing this. Looking for a smaller portion to better show the spread of my vineyard locations.
Below are some notes on my experiences. While at first they might be messy as I jot them down I will go back and reorganize as I can.
Tips/Techniques
- Flavor Testing
- My preferred method is to use appreciation vines(any vine that gives a high qual with a single tend will work) and harvest a good number of vines. I used apprec due to having a large number of vines already. Once I get about 100+ of these vines I then go to a vineyard and plant the vine. I pick out the best qual/grape tend method. Then I harvest the grapes and repeat this 21 times.(Do it 21 times so that i end up with a perfect number of grapes for a bottle) This tends to give me about 12-15 bottles of wine to taste over the course of time.
- Doing the above method I have found it drastically reduces time to locate your flavors as you can quickly bottle up any new vineyard etc in just a few mins, instead of tending for a few days only to end up with a lot lesser turn out for tasting. This also allows you more time to tend the vines that you wish to work on various stats and not having to mess with tends for just flavor purpose.
- Wine production
- Plan what you want. If your simply going for flavor, don't waste valuable time and do as noted above.
- If you are seeking a high % Alcohol wine, pick a vineyard close to your compound or one that you will be near. I have about 14 vineyards next to my cp for such purpose.
- Tend these vines every chance you get, much easier when they are close to you. I tend to put one vineyard for high Alcohol, one for high tanin, etc. With these wines I never fuss over the flavor as the goal is stats not flavor.
- Pick a vine suited for your purpose. This my take some time to decide on but it will be well worth it. I mainly use Eigam Copper and appre vines for my use as they both work extremely well for any/all of my needs.
- Harvesting
- If your vineyards are close to your barrels then you are ok. But if you are like me and have them spread out all over I find it a bit of a time saver to build a chest near the vineyard to drop the grapes in from a single vineyard. Then move to the next etc and repeat.
- Reason to do this is if you use the mass grape production method you can be certain that the grapes you have are from a specific vineyard without having to take excessive notes on the grape number upon each harvest. Then once a section is done I remove the grapes adn go to barrel and repeat.

- Misc
- Always carry wood and a craving knife on you will walking around and create barrel taps when you can. This may sound boring but when it comes time to barrel your wines you will thank me.
Misc notes
(This is based on my experiences only so could be out of date or wrong. If wrong once I learn of it I will change the info here)
- As flavors need a certain vinetage to appear in your wine they also seem to only last so many vinetage changes in your wine as well. I have noted in many a wines that somewhere between 14-17 vinetages that Burnt Toast, Burned Smell flavors will completely disappear in any wine.
- A wine must have qual=1 or higher for flavors to show. If the total sum of qual is 0 you will never get a flavor to show.
- An overall low qual can cause tier 3 flavors not to show.
- Noticed this when I used a single bunch of grapes with an overall qual in the 50's and only got Citrus notes from all range of glasses(from about 2k up to 9k). But when using an overall qual of 200+ grapes I only got grapefruit to show, never did citrus show(even on low qual glasses). I have repeated this testing enough to believe this to be highly true.
- Somewhere around a palette increase of 4(might be off +/- 1) further increases do not show any benefit.
- Flavors do mask/cover other flavors. Well still trying to work out a pattern, if any, it has been seen time andtime again of a flavor being in a wine then gone. Also it has been seen time and time again of a known flavor in a grape to not show up in the finised product.
- Flavor not showing is yet to be figured out why, perhaps qual is an issue, or perhaps some flavors are stronger then others, thus causing weak flavors to be masked/replaced by stronger flavors.
- RS = Sugar/2 for a single bunch of grapes.
