Ban the Larceny
We the people of Egypt, while understanding that unlawful behavior in the arena of virtual vs. concrete can be difficult to monitor, do register our complaint of such. In so doing, we ask Pharoah for the ban of all advertising of such practices as follows:
1) No solicitation of concrete funds in exchange for virtual items may be posted in any general, Main or guild chat, including mics.
2) Any 1st violation of above be punishable by 12 hours in "jail"
3) Any 2nd violation of above (#1) be punishable by 24 hours in "jail"
4) Any 3rd violation of above (#1) be punishable by 1 week in "jail"
5) Any further violation of above (#1) be punishable by 2 weeks in "jail"
We may not be able to stop the practice, but we don't have to watch it on our airwaves, sort of like the banning of cigarette commercials from concrete television.
Comments:
- Larceny, very broadly, means theft. There is no more theft in the trading of virtual items for real-world money than there is in the trading of software for money, or, for example, paying to play a game in the virtual world, such as ATitD. -- Cyall
- The precedent is cited of other MMOGs banning the trading of in-game items for real-world money. I would propose that this does not apply to ATitD, for 2 reasons. Firstly, other MMOGs are concerned that their gameplay would be skewed by players trading items, ATitD allows and even encourages it's players to make laws within the game; laws which change aspects of the game. Secondly, some MMOGs operate by allowing players to connect and play without charge, but they make money by charging for items within the game, a practice that could be damaged by players trading;; this clearly does not apply to ATitD. -- Cyall
- I've known many people who make an honest living from trading in other MMOGs which allow the practice. Why not ATitD? -- Cyall
