Aperio: k - we're going to start... chat belongs to me nowAperio waits for chat tabs to pop up
ThePheonix: (dum dum dum!) *shuts up*
Aperio: I'm going to handle this meeting like an Egypt Microphone Event and I expect to only be pre-empting the Guild Chat for no more than 30 minutes.
Aperio: Please open a chat tab with me now and you will be able to participate in the activity at the end.
Aperio: This is copy-and-paste from a script so any questions or feedback should go in the chat tab to me and I'll try to address them at the end.
Aperio: FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF THOSE WHO CARE ABOUT T4 WANDERERS, IF THE FLOOR HAS NOT BEEN YIELDED TO YOU, YOU WILL BE KICKED FROM THE GUILD FOR THE DURATION AND YOU MAY RE-JOIN AFTER THE CHAT
Aperio: A transcript will be made available on my wiki and I'll give a link after the chat and put it in Guild Messages in the Guild Hall.
Aperio: ---
Aperio: First off, thanks for joining The Wanderers for T4 Beta.
Aperio: It's risky to single people out for recognition but it would be criminal to not thank Tlanthil, Jzalae, and Zaniac for enormous contributions to T4 Beta as a whole.
Aperio: We've seen tremendous efforts and comraderie, not just in the grinding, but in the cooperation and mentoring sides of the game and we're excited about T4 Launch.
Aperio: Some of you are new to us being new players or associates from T3 who joined in common cause to advance Egypt during Beta, so we'd like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about The Wanderers and what you can expect from us in T4.
Aperio: The key to a healthy guild is communication.
Aperio: AGENDA: INTRODUCTIONS, LEADERSHIP, STRUCTURE, LOCATION, SUMMARY
Aperio: INTRODUCTIONS
Aperio: I, Aperio, am currently an Elder in T4 Beta. I was a Patriarch in T3 but part of the steering committee for Wanderers after we lost all 3 Elders. For this chat, I'm representing that steering committee.
Aperio: That steering committee consists of biker (absent), sweetnothing (absent), Endie (undecided), Amrissy, ThePheonix, Sebine, and myself. We maintain a separate guild chat for discussing stuff we'd like to do for Wanderers (an Elder chat).
Aperio: Amrissy - introduction? --- DELAYED --- moving on
Aperio: ThePheonix - introduction? Let me know when you're done.
ThePheonix: I, ThePheonix (call me TP or nixy... or something of your own creation!), am another Elder in T4 Beta, and I was also an Elder of Wanderers and helped get the guild set up last tale as I was living in the area already when biker and sweetnothing came and set up shop. For T4, I'm working on prioritizing and organizing research efforts to make our lives easier (ex: get hatchets for people quickly!). Expect me to be pestering you all for suggestions and ideas over the next week and of course once T4 launches in reality. Later in the tale... I've always been interested in the inner workings of this game, so look for me to be leading research efforts into genomes and inner workings of systems. Finally, A big thanks to Ap for running this meeting!
ThePheonix: (done)
Aperio pauses to let people catch up
Aperio: We believe the Elder chat serves a valuable purpose but we're hoping to break down those barriers in T4 and be accessible to all Wanderers.
Aperio: WHO ARE THE WANDERERS?
Aperio: The Wanderers are a returning guild in T4.
Aperio: We were one of the few active guilds still growing at the end of T3.
Aperio: Our Beta guild has a different focus than the T3 guild and how the Wanderers will look in T4, but still a good group to get to know regardless of where you end up.
Aperio: Historically, The Wanderers are one of the better Mentor guilds, but in Beta and early in the launch, that isn't a focus
Aperio: Throughout the T4 Launch, The Wanderers will be driving pretty hard like everyone else.
Aperio: The Launch will bear some similarity to what we've done in Beta *BUT* we've already addressed some of the issues like communicating what projects the guild is working towards and how we're going to arrive at those decisions.
Aperio: After the initial rush is done (~2-4 weeks), our focus shifts to being a fun and supportive guild.
Aperio: Being a Mentorship Guild doesn't exactly mean we're a hand-out guild, but many members are very giving and we all respect people who are industrious, respectful, and fun
Aperio: Knowing the individual membership, a number of us will specialize and create splinter guilds to support one initiative or another
Aperio: Many of us are active Egypt-wide and many of the individuals are recognized leaders in those fields some of you may remember ThePheonix's Octet's Research Tlanthil's Herb-a-list Tool, El Sangre's crafted tools and my SEARCH Relic guild in late T3.
Aperio: But I don't want to sell you on people since rosters change.
Aperio: It's most important to us that we protect the legacy that we were given. Otherwise, we should choose another guild name and just move on.
Aperio: To that end, This is the framework under which The Wanderers will be formed.
Aperio: LEADERSHIP
Aperio: The Wanderers will reform in T4 with Amrissy, The Pheonix, and myself as Elders, initially. We're committed to providing 3 Elders to the Wanderers from the Steering Committee as we've always done, so those positions may change as the Tale evolves.
Aperio: However, we're going to experiment with The Wanderer's ELECTING 2 ADDITIONAL ELDERS from time to time.
Aperio: We want The Wanderers to be self-governing and for The Wanderers leadership to come out of the membership and to represent what the membership wants to do instead of tasks being handed from on-high.
Aperio: An informal election will be held after this Meeting to elect 2 Interim Elders to be included in the Guild Elder chats for figuring out how the T4 Launch will go.
Aperio: Formal elections will be held shortly after Launch when our focus shifts towards Mentorship.
Aperio: STRUCTURE
Aperio: The Wanderers will consist of 3 guilds vaguely resembling the Sunset Enterprises model, I'm told.
Aperio: The Steering Committee form a guild for the purpose of Elder Chat (like many guilds) and to protect guild project resources.
Aperio: Examples from T3 would be the Octet's Alloy Chest and Genetics Research chests.
Aperio: The Wanderers will form the core guild as it did in T3 and I would imagine its initial membership will look simliar.
Aperio: The Associate Guild (as yet un-named) will form an outer guild ring for casual friends and applicants.
Aperio: The functional difference is that the Wanderers core guild has guild chores and reaps the benefits of those chores.
Aperio: Also, Wanderers chats will be more Wanderers-centric; local matters and guild matters.
Aperio: The Associate Guild will probably employ open enrollment like we did in Beta and have members across all of Egypt who have no desire or ability to collect wood or tend sheep for the guild and no expectation of pulling those resources for their own projects.
Aperio: Commentary on guild ranks: As Tale in the Desert implements ranks, they serve little purpose.
Aperio: It is our hope that this new structure is a better compromise of representing functional ranks and that within these guilds, we'll have a flat organization.
Aperio: basically, you're a member or you're not... many of the specific ranks are just ego-strokes and sever no utility other to create dissension
Aperio: LOCATION
Aperio: The Wanderers will probably start in the 7L region (now Shabbat At), but we'll have to see the map first. Chat an Elder and warp to them after scouting (you should have that ability for the first 4 hours).
Aperio: The sooner we aggregate in an area and start working together to form a collective of public buildings with public equipment, the sooner we can organize for complex tasks like formalizing the guild, digging stones, creating a flax industry, and unlocking techs.
Aperio: TASKS
Aperio: We will use the message capacity of the guild house to track what the guild is working on.
Aperio: When you come online, just head to the GH or ask someone in camp to look at the messages to see what our marching orders are.
Aperio: And don't assume those tasks are not open for discussion!
Aperio: SUMMARY
Aperio: 1) Amrissy, ThePheonix, myself, and 2 Elders YOU ELECT will form the initial pool of Elders for T4 Launch
Aperio: 2) By the end of this week we should have a plan for how T4 Launch will go
Aperio: 3) If the fast pace of the Launch doesn't suit your temperament, please be patient with us and contribute what you can so we can get through Launch. It will get better!
Aperio: ---
Aperio: I'd like to conduct some Q& A - any questions to the chat tabs
Aperio: Q: What do you expect of core members and the locations of their Compound?
Aperio: Discussion will be open ater we're done
Aperio: a lot of people are responding to the first question and it's all good stuff
Aperio: I don't want to be a bottleenck on that.
Aperio: so I'll answer the question as I see it
Aperio: expectaions of members
Aperio: pfft - whatever. We don't create laundry lists and checklists for the core guild
Aperio: It's important to participate and it helps to be local to the main camp
ThePheonix: My personal thought on the matter is that core members will contribute to live at the wanderers, and the easiest way to do that is live there. That said, you dont have to live there by a long stretch of the imagination (so, what Ap is saying)
ThePheonix: *life at wanderers, sorry.
Aperio: It's important to provide your time and efforts to help others as you can
Aperio: But once there is more leisure time, we'll all be focused on our own tests and stuff and the guild will have events and projects and stuff
Aperio: Q: You mentioned that you want to "Elected" elders after this meeting, will these two members be Elders in Tale 4 Live, or just for the beta stages?
Aperio: The 2 elected elders will be for the Launch Period
Aperio: They will help us this next week plan and execute the Launch
Aperio: After Launch, we'll hold formal elections from the people who are actually in the guild for real :) Some people may come back from T3 but weren't in the Beta
Aperio: and those elected elders are intended to rotate from time to time.
Aperio: It's an experiment that we have high hopes for.
Aperio: A lot of guilds are very cliquish and we really want to avoid that
Aperio: Q: What percentage of time to you expect core members to participate in guild activites?
Aperio: No hard figures on %. Some people are casual and play once a week. Some people are daily fixtures and some, like Amrissy, don't even log out - lol
Aperio: So it is unreasonable to expect that even the same % applies to everyone. The bottom line is if you aren't feeling guilty about not helping, you're probably not Wanderer material - heh
Aperio: Gathering more questions.. Nix want to elaborate on anything?
ThePheonix: no, that sounds about right. Ultimatly, we want to know you and know that you care about the guild and furthering it... quotas and percentages just introduce needless complications into the mess. Ultimatly, it comes down to you... if you feel you want to commit to Wanderers, come to the core... if you just want to talk, join the chat
ThePheonix: (done)
Aperio: k - a lot of the questions I'm getting now are details best left for the team that arises from this meeting to discuss
Aperio: I'll list them and answer them ambiguously as a bunch
Aperio: Q: How will joining the guild in the live tale work? Will there be a probationary term for people not in the guild from T3 or will all be accepted?
Aperio: Q: What is the guild policy on members joining other guilds?
Aperio: Q: Could you make a spot for member compound only?
Aperio: Q: ive never been involved with a guild at the beginning of a new telling - would you anticipate ppl working towards establisngi a guild facility before maknig their own cps?
Aperio: Q: i would like the elders to consider spacing cps in the light of the flax pollution problems for tale 4.
Aperio: my quick responses to these:
Aperio: you can be a member of any guild you like
Aperio: I think having Wanderers as your Primary guild is a likely component for that guild, but I think it's a matter of self-perception.
Aperio: We can't control where people live, Wanderers or not
Aperio: The logistics of doing Launch will not be decided by me, Nix, or Am... we need to use whatever resources you guys elect and whoever else we can tap to figure this stuff out
Aperio: It's silly to think that we have all the answers... Tale is all about discovering what Teppy has in store for us and there will be lots of reverses
Aperio: Re: pollution - no idea... we still have a week to figure out what pollution is and how to cotnrol it
Aperio: ---
Aperio: Am is back... maybe she can introduce herself now :)
Amrissy: Hi I'm Amrissy - that's about it
Aperio: lol - took Am 10 seconds to cover what I did in 45 min.
Aperio: ELECTION
