Plato Academy > Test Of The Trader

Test of the trader

Around Egypt there are many other civilizations. In the East there is the Asyrian empire with its great gardens. In the West there are the Minoan and Aegean people which are great artists. In the North there is the great trading Phoenician people and Lebanon, famous for its wood. And in the South there are the Ethiopians and the people of the jungle. And don't forget the Indians whose ships can sometimes be seen in the Red Sea. And traders travel from place to place buying the finest products of Egyptian civilization and selling marvelous and hard-to-find items to Egyptians. However not all of them are famous for fair trade. Prove that you can make profit from traders and provide Egypt with fine and exotic goods, without been fooled.

In order to do a trade you must first find a trader. Traders come to Egypt either by sea with trade ships or by caravan. To find one, you must attract them by building a firehouse at the top of a mountain. Then load it with wood and fire it. The more wood you put, the less the fire lasts. So constant adding of wood may be needed. When a trader sees the fire, a message will be visible to all in the regional channel like “The minoan trader <name> has made camp to LE shore line”. Anyone can go and find the trader's camp. At the camp, a trading post must be built within 30 mins after the message appeared. If the camp isn't built, the trader will go somewhere else.

The trader will then wait 2 hours or till he completes 7 trades, whichever comes first. But be warned, you don't know what you buy. Of the 7 trades, only a few will be good trades. The other ones will be anything, even sand. Mostly you get a small percentage from other people trades. For example, if someone trades 100 cuttables for item A and someone else, after that trade completes, sells 200 iron for item B, packet A might just be 50 iron. But you can also negotiate the price by offering 30% more or less than the price. Knowing the trading habbits of each trader, or if you have traded with him/her in the past, will help you to do successful trades. You will know what you bought only after the trader is far away from you anger. But you may be lucky and get valuable items like wood from Lebanon, art from Santorini, oil from Crete, flowers from Babylon, wild animals from Nubia, even spices from India.

Attract a trader, by adding wood to the fire, and complete a trade to pass the Principles. Get valuable items to pass the Test.
