Twenty two unique Milky Solvent Results. Each Triplet is marked with all the combinations (see bellow) in which they appear (ie GUR appears in only the second combination and is therefore marked with (2)). Note each triplet is in at least one of the combinations listed bellow.

  1. GUO (1)
  2. GUR (2)
  3. IGU (6)
  4. IOU (8)
  5. IRO (3)
  6. IRY (4)
  7. IUO (13)
  8. KYI (5)
  9. OIG (6)
  10. OIK (7)
  11. OIO (8)
  12. OIR (9)
  13. OUG (8, 11)
  14. ROI (2, 3)
  15. RYY (4)
  16. UGU (8,11)
  17. UOI (10)
  18. UOU (11)
  19. URO (2)
  20. YIR (12)
  21. YIU (13)
  22. YYI (4)

Groupings that Must Exist

Groupings of triplets that must exist if the 22 triplets above are all the possible unique triplets. In the parenthesis are all the gene sequences which are known to effect the visual appearance of orchids from the grouping except the first letter (as the first letter will be counted in what ever group each of them is connected too).

  1. GUO (Uo)
  2. GUROI (Ro)
  3. IROI (Ro)
  4. IRYYI (Ry, Ryy)
  5. KYI ()
  6. OIGU (gU)
  7. OIK ()
  8. OIOUGU (oU, Ug, gU)
  9. OIR ()
  10. UOI ()
  11. UOUGU (oU, Ug, gU)
  12. YIR ()
  13. YIUO (Uo)

Note there are an equal number of groups which start and end with any given pair of letters (excluding 'K') except for "GU" and "OI" which have one extra group ending and starting respectively. Therefore one of the groups starting with "GU" and one of the groups ending with "OI" is most likely repeated. "GUO" and "UOI" is the shortest possible combination adding only 2 genes to the total length of the gene, since they overlap by "UO". Therefore the shortest possible string is 27 genes long (excluding the Ks). There are however still a number of possible combinations of the above groupings which are exactly 27 genes long.

Likely Extra Group

  1. GUOI (Uo)

Color Affecting Sequences copied from above

Color Sequences which visually appear

Note this supports the above groups including the "Likely Extra Group". It's unknown what sequence makes "Lower Cyan1".

Using Mutegens to Narrow down possible strings

Karnak #5 Shangri-La (left) and Arabian Nights (right), hits the 4th gene on Shangri-La and the 23rd or 24th on Arabian Nights (AN 21-24 is "IGRI). This cross produced a Shangri-La like flower with an Upper petal of Cyan1, Magenta1. This means that an Ro was replaced by something that had no effect. It also produced an Arabian Nights like bulb with a Cyan1 front petal. Which means that a gR was replaced with something that has no effect. Changing the 24th spot in AN (the I) couldn't removed a color therefore K5B hit AN 23. This means an R was placed in SL's 4 place. Therefore SL's 3-4 must have previously been RO. This means SL must have the grouping listed bellow.

  1. GUO (Uo)
  2. GUROI (Ro)
  3. GUOI (Uo)
  4. IRYYI (Ry, Ryy)
  5. KYIROI (Ro)
  6. OIGU (gU)
  7. OIK ()
  8. OIOUGU (oU, Ug, gU)
  9. OIR ()
  10. UOI ()
  11. UOUGU (oU, Ug, gU)
  12. YIUO (Uo)
