You can also find live Chickens by Examining Pale Pampas Grass. I checked 9 clumps & found 1 hen.
Just the usual message appeared on clicking, but the hen appeared in inventory and then the following message in Main: "How strange! A hen was pecking around in the grass."
Don't yet know if roosters can also be found this way. Added: Roosters may be found by Examining Dark Green Pampas Grass. They are not frequently found so be aware of that as you search.
