Largest Obelisk (as of November 20th, 2007): 1000 cubits, located in Karnak

Test of the Obelisk

Requires Level 3

"The test of the Obelisk requires that you build the largest Obelisk of its kind in your Region. You must exceed the current largest Obelisk by just a single cubit, but you must retain the title of largest Obelisk for at least 1 hour. By meditating on Obelisks (Tests Menu), you can sense what the various kinds of obelisks are and the heights of the obelisks that came before."

The Test of the Obelisk requires participants to build the largest obelisk of one of four types in their region. It must not merely be the largest obelisk still standing there -- but rather, the largest obelisk ever. To begin the test, you must be level 3, and have access to Obelisk Construction (available now at your friendly University.)

The four types of Obelisk each have different construction costs. For information, it may be preferable to check http://wiki.atitd.net/tale1/Obelisk -- The T1 obelisk page -- however, these requirements are NOT the same in Tale3!

Once your obelisk has stood for one hour, unsurpassed in your region, you pass the test.

Important note about small construction sites:
The person who loads the last thing into a construction site receives credit for constructing the new building. Normally this doesn’t matter for most buildings because the owner of the building is still the person who started the construction site. However, for Obelisks this makes a huge difference. Make sure you are the last person to load anything into an Obelisk’s construction site.

Passing Principles

Principles of the Obelisk simply requires you to build a seven-cubit Desert Obelisk after attaining all the material types for it. This does not threaten another player's pass, and is considered to be a very easy level. This is because an obelisk that does not pass can be disassembled within 1 week with a special command that recovers all its materials, regardless of your Salvage Techniques skill. (The canvas and 4 rope used in making the small construction site are not recovered.)

Principle of the Obelisk

Material Checklist for the Principle:

Construction Site
Project Management
4 rope
1 canvas
Obelisk
Obelisk Construction (1)
231 bricks
23 boards
5 slate
3 dried flax
24 clay
7 linen
1 flint

Naturally much more materials are needed for larger obelisks - see Desert Obelisk

Obelisk Sizes

This table lists the largest obelisk currently in each region. When more obelisk types are unlocked, they can be added as extra columns. These are the "largest obelisk" sizes, not the "to pass the test" sizes. Important: please update this once you've built one.

Build Queues

Many regions have a build queue which they maintain. Many consider it polite to check whether such a queue exists before building another obelisk in that region, especially with the timer reduced to one hour.

These queue pages are not to ensure your obelisk remains valid!
The queue pages remain mostly for historical and documentation purposes. When first released, obelisks were easier to make, and more people wanted to make them. Now, it takes much greater effort to make one, but your odds of getting "stomped on" are much less.
If you want to make sure people are aware that your obelisk is trying to qualify to pass the test, use the regional chat channel.
