A Guide to Tracking Down Those Pesky Fennecs
What you need to know
- A Fennec Trap can only have three states:
- Perfectly Clean
- Shows Signs of <Type of Fennec>
- Contains a Fennec of <Type>
- Traps that are "Perfectly Clean" can be so for one of two reasons: It never contained a Fennec, which means there is no pack with a 1,000 coordinate radius of that spot, or it did contain a Fennec that has be collected by another player already
- Traps that "Show Signs" means that there is no Fennec within 250 coordinates of that spot, but there is one within 1,000 coordinates.
- Traps that "Contain a Fennec" means that the pack was within 250 coordinates of that spot.
- Fennecs Run in packs, there is more than one member of a pack. What this means is that all traps within the right area will catch a fennec. So there is no harm to private traps, they won't "take away a fennec" if you have a trap in the right area too.
- Fennec Packs move, albeit slightly. Previously, they only moved when a member of the pack was caught. In tale 3 they seemed to move every night
- Fennec Pack territories can overlap. You can see two traps that are "close to each other" give signs from different types of Fennecs. I don't how it resolves priority to see if one should be caught or not, though I would guess it is based on the relative distances.
- Fennec Traps reset at approximately 4 a.m. Egypt Time. There is some variation in this, but it is a good base point
What do to
- Fennec hunting is a mapping problem. You will be given a series of data points (the traps) and each one can tell you some information about where the fennec is and is not.
- Think of a trap "with signs" like a donut. The inner, open part you know does not contain a fennec, but the outer tasty part does.
- Think of a trap that is "clean" like a pancake. You know that fennecs don't like pancakes, so there is no fennec in that area.
- So you check the traps, putting down a donut or pancake as appropriate for each on (I personally use graph paper or Visio)
- Soon a picture will evolve, showing you areas where the fennec could be, and cannot be in the overlaps of those donuts and pancakes.
- Given enough data points, you will have narrowed down the area to a small slice where the fennec must be.
