Vine Research Comments

I misunderstood that mutagens only swap ONE pair. I had inferred from some explanations that they were swapping two pairs in relatively similar positions based upon genome length. So some of my comments were based upon that confusion but I'll clean up what I can as time permits.

When you cross 2 vines, you get 2 vines back; each different; and you need 2 of the same vine in order to do solvent work to test it.

So, in order to get 2 vines, you either do the same cross again (which I'm starting to lean towards despite it wasting labels and leading to possible confusion) or you plant it (losing an available vine), wait 2 hours for a cutting which you plant (or just wait for next cutting, but this wastes the opportunity to benefit from doubling), wait 2 more hours for a cutting and then test (or double and wait 2 more hours so you have spares to start tend tables).

In short, it takes no less than 4 hours before you can possibly test your results with solvents and 6 hours if you are trying to be efficient and coordinate with others. Then you have to analyze your results before planning a new cross. Realistically, I can do 1 test per day on a particular project, though I'm starting to branch out into multiple projects to better use this time.

If I come off a little testy in my comments, I've been frustrated by the precious time wasted (we've estimated 30-60 days left in T3) by my learning curve, my concern over the documentation that exists and how it aligns with reality and usability, and the apparent behavior of all mutations being 1 or more genes off on the chart. I think I can predict these variances now, but now I'm very cautious about reporting successful results.

For new mutagenicists

The left splint affected gene is determined by its genome length and can be referenced by the A cross whereas the right splint affected gene is determined by its genome length and can be referenced by the B cross. All other genetic material remains the same. Be aware that it appears as though everything on the chart is shifting right one position.

I've been made aware that mutagens only swap 1 gene from each vine. I've been under the impression that 2 sets switched which colored my interpretation of the mutagen chart. I believe I'd be better served with a chart that cross-referenced the A & B potencies to yield a toxin. Even the positions are more important than the specific bulb breeds, so I think the chart could use restructuring to bring the more important information forward. I'm working on a different format that I hope will prove more useful.

The mission here is to simply get more Os in the genome for placing elsewhere. With the shift right phenomenon on mutagens, that Gene #1 placement is at a premium and Amusement is the only useful vine with an O there already.

GOG remains... almost has to be a 6:12. Can't have hit 7 or we'd have GOR ROG or GOO OOG. The genome is probably right though. If we have fewer Gs we'd be hitting Os anyway, and if we had more Gs, we'd probably have hit the R on 12. If we had more G's we could be hitting a G on 11 and swapping a G. I need to look at the previous MISS for that possibility.
Well, K7 has less potency on the first hit than UE7, so it could have fallen short, but the 2nd hit was in the Os so we'd have had to swap Os for this to be the case. I'm running out of ideas as to how to swap an O into Gene 7

The idea here is to place a Y in the middle of the right G substring so I can verify the Aperio #18 Genome (and by extension, the Amusement genome). I seem to have hit a dead-end with Aperio #18 and it still holds so much promise for breaking vines genetics wide open, so I'm going to make sure all the deltas I've done are where I expected them and use this opportunity to verify Amusement.
