I realize elsewhere in the wikki I can find this information, however, I wanted to record my experiences, not read other peoples, so yes I'm wasting internet space with this.
With each herb, and blend of herbs, you can gain 1 Fumeology point, that is the only time you will get to read the message about the nature of the smoke flavor and aroma. Some people report unannouced points, as that has not happened to me on single herb blends, I suspect it comes from smoking multiple herb blends where you get the point for a single herb you hadn't smoked previously, as well as the point for smoking the new blend. This is conjecture only.
As you gain Fumeology points, your perception increases, you gain 1 perception each for reaching Fumeology of 49 and 243 (this is as yet unexperienced by me). Also, as you gain Fumeology points, the emote of the announcement changes.
