DuncanofMycenae: Hello
DuncanofMycenae: I have taken the unusual step (for me) of chatting with u because I am upset at the veto on same-gender marriage
DuncanofMycenae: I understand from what I have read/anecdotal evidence that you are not personally opposed to the principle (RL) although this may be wrong and yet in Egypt we are treated like second class citizens!
DuncanofMycenae: I have had two suggestions for why such petitions have been vetoed:
DuncanofMycenae: 1) In Ancient Egypt such unions were not recognised
DuncanofMycenae: 2) It would alter a currently running Test
DuncanofMycenae: The first reason is not the case and in ancient times although not the norm such partnerships were recognised and partners received similar priviledges to spouses - any academic reading relating to Alexander the Great would reveal this.
DuncanofMycenae: Furthermore - I am far from certain that many of the "Techs" which exist in ATITD have any historic basis in fact!
DuncanofMycenae: 2) The Test of Marriage would be fundamentally altered - this is true however there were no such concerns when altering the Test of Safari after it had started.
DuncanofMycenae: Although obviously you do not have to reply or comment, I would very much welcome your rationale for making this decision
Pharaoh: The answer has to do with #2, though I'll elaborate when I get back from lunch...
DuncanofMycenae: Ok thank you - if it is nothing that can be fixed for this Tale perhaps it can be looked at for the next Telling. There must be some solution to this one ...
DuncanofMycenae: Appreciate you've been busy with a number of new things going on, but would appreciate your "elaboration" at some stage - so we can look at what you say and see if there is any way we can take that forward and improve things in the future - we now have a guild set up in Karnak to discuss the idea sensibly and rationally - you will have seen the petition votes so whilst there are some objections very many people support a future change on the grounds of fairness
M or F looking for M union - very easy - cost therefore should be higher
M or F looking for F union - very hard - cost should therefore be lower
when starting the marriage test/principle u specify the gender u are seeking
your personal multiplier becomes: number of target gender / total singles
0.98 for someone seeking a man
0.02 for someone seeking a woman
the personal totals are then added together
M + M = 1.96
M + F = 1.0
F + F = 0.04
0.75 for someone seeking a man
0.25 for someone seeking a woman
the personal totals are then added together
M + M = 1.5
M + F = 1.0
F + F = 0.5
in a society with equal males/females
100 singles
50 m
50 f
0.50 for someone seeking a man
0.50 for someone seeking a woman
the personal totals are then added together
M + M = 1.0
M + F = 1.0
F + F = 1.0
