The Mentor Questionaire
What do you enjoy most about mentoring?
- I really enjoy the excitement when a new player gets zapped for the first time, and when they find out all the new things they can do after they leave the island. So I guess you could say my favorite part is introducing them to the skills and initations that help with quick completion and success.
What do you find most difficult about mentoring?
- The time involved, as we all have real lives that tend to interfere with our fun !!!!! If only there were more time in a day.
Where do you find it easier to mentor - on the island or the mainland, and why?
- I enjoy both arenas as they have two different levels of satisfaction.
How would you describe your mentoring style?
- I adjust to the needs of the person, some I hold their hands and guide them very extensivly, others I just chat with, help with some tuition and they are ready to go forward with a resource guide.
Whats the most important thing to teach / do for a new player?
- I think they need to understand most what is available for them in all of Egypt. We need to assure they understand what is there and that just being in one area they will tend to miss out on all the fun that is going on. I also feel they need to be introduced to all of the microphone channels as they give a lot of good information.
Whats the best, or easiest, kind of student to teach?
- I think it goes without saying that the easist student to teach is one that wants to learn, the hardest is one that is very impatient as learning Egypt does not all come quickly. But all students, that do want to be a part of the game, will learn in their own time.
What problems have you encountered while mentoring, and how were they resolved?
- I think the problems I have encountered are mostly because of lack of time. On the island for some reason losing things is a major problem frequently, on the mainland it is just time and location. My camp is not close to town, although I am very willing and do go to the student unless they want to live out in the boonies with us.
What makes you a 'good' mentor?
- I believe I do have patience and I am flexible enough to adjust to the needs of the person. I am committed to mentoring as I feel very strongly that just like orientation into a new job, good mentoring makes a good citizen.
