Technologies should be placed under the techs page--for example, agriculture. Edit a new tech page, and you will be presented with a technology template to fill out:
---- BEGIN tech info University: <university> Research cost: * <quantity> <item> ---- END tech info
(brief description of tech)
Teachable in ? lessons.
Fill in the type of university this technology is researched at (architecture, art, etc.), and the research requirements. Add a description of the technology after the "END" line. (Don't put anything extraneous in between the BEGIN and END lines, since it may be deleted.)
When possible, please also add the number of lessons that a tech takes to teach, or if it's not teachable. If the tech isn't researched yet, please leave a placeholder to remind people. Also please add any direct prerequisites for the research (e.g. Horticulture requires Gardening to be open at that University, which itself requires Agriculture to be open there). Other relevant information (like vine handout information for Viticulture) is welcome as well. All of this belongs under the "END" line.
Add multiple-university techs like pyramid construction by making a different tech page for each university type, naming them as name_of_tech_(arch), name_of_tech_(art), and so on.
Each region should have a page under the Research page--for example, Fools Paradise.
The research page will be automatically populated with a list of universities, technologies, and research requirements. Follow the template provided when updating the page. As new technologies are added, they will automatically appear on the research pages when those pages are next edited. This is currently malfunctioning, so you will have to add this information manually. Be careful to exactly match the names of the tech and the research requirements to the tech page, and to match the research page format, or the information may be automatically deleted when the page is next edited.
Set the X and Y coordinates of a university to have it appear on the main Research map.
Completed techs should be listed under a "== Completed ==" heading, and techs on timer should be listed under a "== On timer ==" heading, for example:
= University of Architecture (1234, 5678) = == stonecutting == * 0/1000 Cuttable Stone * 0/1000 Flint == On Timer == * stonemasonry == Complete == * blacksmithing * mine_construction
Completed items for a partly researched tech will automatically appear in bold:
When putting a tech on timer, you can add a comment to the line, separated by a dash. This is useful for putting a timestamp indicating when the tech will be open for for people to learn. For example:
== on timer == * Agriculture - Complete at {2006/05/28 00:35 UTC}which will appear like:
Nefer-Bast: When something is missing from the edit script, it's usually because it was put in wrong. Check that the names of the tech and the items are accurate to the tech page - I had this problem with crossbreeding, but changing it to the correct "cross_breeding" fixed it. Automagic is still failing, btw, so I put in a warning about this whole business up above. Also, in T1, there were techs that took different complex items in each region (ex. Advanced Horticulture called for different petal colors and such in different regions). I expect we'll see this again; do we have any plans on how to handle it?
Swervy: I don't know who did it (Armeagle, I suppose) but now you can use http://armeagle.atitd.net/timer.php/ for the On Timer techs. It will create an image that counts down the time remaining in TeppyTime so people don't need to wonder exactly how much time is left. Just put the image URL after the tech.
