Banks

Overview

There are several sort of organizations in the game calling themselves "banks" some are economic or central banks, some are big "stores" and some are hybrids of both.

Traders Bank of Egypt

Most famous for being backer of the TN note!

Since most people don?t deal with Central Banks in everyday life, they tend to confuse the TboE with a Retail Bank, the kind of Bank they are familiar with. A main function of a Retail Bank in the physical world is to store your cash safe from robbers, and give it back to you on demand. This function is completely superfluous in Egypt as physical robbery is impossible. This confusion does lead to people thinking of the Bank as a source for cash. This is not the intention, trading with your local merchant and fellow citizens is intended to be source for TN. The Bank becoming a source for TN interferes with trade, and violates its stated purpose.
The Bank only prints TN when more is needed to maintain a circulating stock for trade. In the ramp up to full operation, we have put a lot of effort into getting a working level of TN into the Economy. My sense is that phase is now coming to and end, and we can move to the fully operational phase outlined in the Bank Charter. In this phase, the Bank issues currency at regularly published times, as outlined in the Charter. This gets rid of the current game of hunt the Banker which a getting harder as the Bank staff are not online as much as they used to be. -- From Hellinar's post on .net forums

Bank of Phoenicia / Per-atum

BOP Website (Old URL)

Our web site is no longer functional, and we have decided to close shop. PN will be redeemed through June 25, 2004. Any remaining stock in the Bank will be donated to research or community projects as the teller-traders for each branch see fit.

The Bank of Phoenicia acted primarily as a trade exchange: goods can be exchanged for other goods or for PN currency. It also hosted a crystal exchange. Having an account chest at Bank of Phoenicia allowed you to submit trades when the tellers are offline. Prices are listed on the bank's website. Bank of Phoenicia had branches in 7Lakes, OE, Sinai and DoS.
