The newly researched Deep Well requires a medium construction site and:

The Screwgears are a new recipie available at the Masters Casting Box at:

The amount of Screwgears you get for this is 1 (we assume, havent made one yet)

Geez, is this a bug or what? Seems a bit unrealistic.

I think this is a tempory mesurement taken to stop the flooding of the market with petrol at this stage -Desertking

No, that was the cost in T1. It's just an unchanged cost, not yet accounting for the 70% drop in iron production. (Of course, iron production may speed up significantly with a little more tech progress, but who knows:)) -- they really were that hard to make before. Even after multiple months in game, I didn't understand how we'd managed to build so many deep wells. :) But, that's why they are large community projects. If everyone in Egypt contributes 10 iron, we more than get a deep well. And I'll be honest. I can contribute distinctly more than 10 iron. :)

we made many deep wells in T1 because iron ore was plentiful, the hard part was getting the CC to convert iron ore to iron. the first deep well took amazingly dedicated hard work from some people who were verging themselves on burnout. but, the first deep well allowed us to open alternative fuels, and then petrol could be used to turn iron ore to iron, and suddenly a deep well was a cheap group project or a moderately interesting solo project. the T2 cost should perhaps reflect better the new way iron is made, and consider whether petrol will really help. but keeping it expensive is one way teppy can put off that decision - he doesn't have to tweak alternative fuels tech if the deep well is months away
