Yokir Tournament Format

OK, pros and cons of a Yokir tournament.

Pros:
Yokir is *fun*, everyone who has played it, likes it. This means we'll probably get more people playing than with Tak
Tables are relatively cheap, so we won't need to open weppy. I'm sure Teppy is sick of me bugging him by now :)
Games don't take a huge amount of time
Easy to teach new players how to play

- I have 5 tables already set up outside of the Karnak conflict shrine and probably have another couple stashed somewhere :) I'd also like to run this as a host event so will dig out some wine, herbs, fireworks and such.

Cons:
Only one person wins out of three, how do we make it so more people advance per game. Or at least let people feel better about losing :)
A straight knockout tournament won't work very well, this may take a bit more organising than the Tak tournament...
- I was thinking something with a double knockout or a B-side. That way people get at least two games. Not sure on the numbers we'll need to make it work or what happens to those who lose in the second round of the A-side.
- Definitely should try and set up ranked matches at the beginning. The odds of getting all three players the same rank otherwise are pretty slim. It would probably be more fun for the newer players as well.

Hmm, how about scrapping the whole *tournament format* idea, and just having it be about advancing in rank. We have all the rank 1 people play each other first, at least two games for each player so that they can get to rank 2. Semi-random groupings, maybe winners of the first games get grouped together to play their second games. Anyone who makes rank 2 gets bumped up to the rank 2 pool and plays with other rank 2 people. And so on for rank 3.

The higher ranked people may have to wait around for a game at times, but more people should be advancing all the time.

This doesn't need a set number of people to make it work like a tournament does. Dunno how prizes will work in this setup though, maybe anyone who advances in rank gets a prize (no matter which rank they make)? Better prizes for making rank 3 or 4 than for making rank 2? Thoughts?

- I like it. Hopefully some of the higher ranked players can help newer players with practice games if they are waiting around. As for prizes....could do it by ranking or number of matches won. Any good prize ideas? Would we still do some consolation prizes?

Random Brainstorming

Not everyone will want to play every game.
Also, some of the games (Rake and Zhadu especially) take a long time to play.
Depending on how many people show, we could have a seperate mini-tournament for each game. This may take too long though.
Alternatively, we could have one tournament where each round is a different game. This means that every person will play at most one match of any particular game. Start with Tug, then Tak, Zhadu, Rake and finally Yokir. I'd say leave out 7blade as it's not very popular.
We'll need shrooms for Rake, wood for Tug and Reflection, and supplies for any Yokir tables needed.

I think we might have a better turnout with the mini tournaments. But as you say, it may take to long. It will likely be dependent on whether we can get some temporary courts built or not. We could just limit the number of game types and just choose 3 or 4 to do. Maybe Reflection, Tug, Yokir and Rake.

I'm also still kicking around the idea of the Masters Challenge where individuals can challenge a Master of Conflict or a master of a specific game (one the highest ranking) to one time match for prizes. That way if people were really keen on playing Zhadu, Sevenblade or Tak (or whichever games are not in the tournament) they would still have an opportunity. I guess the prizes will depend on the game type....a win at Zhadu would likely merit something larger than a Sevenblade win. ~Z

How about something where everyone puts one of their 7blades into a chest, then they're given a random one to play with? The game may be more interesting when you have to rely on the other person's play-style versus powerful blades, and people will be likely to put in poor blades. -TpcT

There's also the fact that some games are unbalanced (Rake and Reflection especially). This means that we'll have to do at least two games for these to make it fair.

We'll need to announce the contest on a few mics so that people who don't use the wiki will know about it. Especially for the new peeps.

Have we chosen a location yet? Talked to Otter about getting a few more temporary courts??

Lastest Info: We are now being allowed to use Weppy for the tourney (thanks to Al for bugging Teppy). The only problem with this is that those not initiated can't enter the Arena. I've asked Otter if she can set up temporary pools outside the Karnak Conflict Shrine and still waiting to hear if that's possible. If it's not, we can do something with the pools near the CS. I've also set up some yokir tables outside the shrine since I don't know if there will be any in Weppy. So with the temp pools and yokir tables set up out there it should be good both inside and out of Weppy. There are also tasting tables and I've got several bottles of wine and some hookahs and herbs too.

Prizes

I'll offer a perfect shovel or a named hatchet for anyone who completes the initiation at the event. Dunno about prizes for the individual games or for the tournament as a whole.
Consolation prizes?

I was thinking we could compile a list of prizes and let the winner(s) choose their prizes. I had in mind things like art and thought kits...maybe sets of raeli tiles, pyro metals or marble. Someone had also suggested Phoenix tower kits. As well just some raw resources like metals, silk, veggie seeds, etc. I will put a list up of the items I have, the next opportunity I get. ~Z

I think that kits for other disciplines is a great idea, as it'll draw players who are not interested in conflicts. The same can be said about some of the harder to get resources, like marble. Additionally, the Iron Man tournament has an interesting list of prizes, maybe copy some of their ideas?

Lastest Info: I've gather a fair bit of stuff although I'm not entirely sure how to divide it up for the prizes. So far I have 500 bronze, 20 silk, 10 quicksilver, raeli tiles sets, full seed set, herb sets and yokir tables. I'm also hoping to get some thermos, marble and hookahs. If anyone has anything they want to donate please let me know. ~Zanna
