Leadership Test Idea - The Test of True Leadership
I had a 2 hour long chat with Teppy about the test and he had some concerns and made some suggestions...
Based on this chat, I will be writing a more streamlined version of the test, that will be closer to what would actually be released, while retaining the spirit of the test, but will leave the as voted upon version below.
Introduction
Leaders of Egypt, now is the time to come together to lead the people of this Great Land. It is not enough for leaders to expect support from the people and to provide nothing in return. Leaders are needed to lead by example and provide direction for the great works and projects of Egypt. Be it directing massive Architectural Projects, pleasing the Gods with large scale tributes and ceremonies to them, the commissioning and construction of Pyramids that reach ever higher towards the Sun, the writing of worthy Laws or the most noble of projects the building of Monuments, all require Great Leadership. Take up the challenge; provide the leadership, direction and support for the great works and projects of this Great Land. Be an inspiration to others and help them to attain their goals. Help Egypt to be strong and the Great Land it should be.
The Concept / Monument Summary
This test is designed to reward Leaders that are in it for the long haul, not those seeking quick rewards. Leaders, who lead, organize and help other Egyptians to complete various activities, projects and tests. To pass this test, these Leaders would need to lead multiple projects, either the same activity over and over again or a diverse collection of activities. It also rewards established Egyptians who assist newer Egyptians beyond the scope of what mentorship currently serves.
Background
The way this test would work is that other activities and Tests would be linked to passing this test (similar to how the Body Test Of Reason uses doing and judging Thought Puzzles to generate Focus points and thereby passing The Test of Reason). These major activities and other Tests would be linked to this test by several means, detailed below. When passes are generated in these other Tests or upon completion of these other projects, points would be awarded that would be applied to passing this test. Since each Egyptian can only pass each test once, it will be to the each leader’s benefit to lead Egyptians that have not passed that test previously or to lead the same group in other tests or projects. One activity that would be exempt from this limit would be Pyramid building, but only the first 7 completed of each kind of Pyramid would count for points in this test. Each Egyptian who passed a test or is properly involved in the completed activity could assign 1 point to as many Leaders as a particular Test/Activity warranted. The number of points is based on the relative difficulty of the test or activity.
I would hope and expect that this test would be released very early in the tale so that other tests and activities would be able to be included as projects covered by this test.
A new building would be needed in some cases, a Foremen’s Compound. The Foremen’s Compound would be similar to a Monument Construction Site and would have these features and restrictions. . .
- When first built the builder would need to declare what test or project the Foremen’s Compound is being used for, prior to anyone else joining it.
- There would be 3 ranks. . . Leaders, Assistants and Supporters. Leaders and Assistants would be able to receive points.
- It would be relocatable like a Guild Hall.
- It would not hold other materials. (see below)
- It would have a chat channel.
- For activities with a unified defined end, where all participants “pass” at the same time, this chat channel could expire 30 days after the activity is completed (Mega completion, Pyramid built, Pilgrimage Passed).
- For activities with an undefined end, the chat channel would expire 60 days after last person passed or 30 days after there are no more pass eligible people.
- It would serve as the polling location for promotions and demotions.
- It could be converted in to the starting location of the project once the real project building actually starts. The converted building would retain some of the features of the Foremen’s Compound (chat channel, polling location, etc.), but would acquire the appropriate features of the converted building (pumps would not be relocatable for example).
- There were several suggestions that were made concerning this building:
- The Foremen’s Compound should be able to store ONLY the materials that are needed to convert it into the start of the real project, as in an aqua pump (pump only, no upgrades), mega center (fixed costs materials, no other sections), etc.
- The Foremen’s Compound would not be able to own any other structures not directly related to the test or project it is intended to be used for.
- There were several concerns about the Foremen’s Compound being used as a low cost chat channel, these solutions were suggested:
- Have a timer to prevent it from never actually being used for its intended purpose.
- Have it cost half the cost of a regular Guild Hall.
- Have it require unusual or expensive resources to build, making it cheaper to build a regular Guild Hall, if all you want a chat channel.
- Limit the size of the membership to a reasonable number, based on its intended purpose. Perhaps no more than 50% more members than what you would anticipate having Pass. Example: 49 Pass with a Mega, a Foremen’s Compound used for a Mega, could have 74 members.
Currently, I would see the these T2 tests and activities covered by The Test of True Leadership and any other appropriate T3 group participation tests can certainly be added by Pharaoh. The weighting of each pass could be changed if some of these tests are not used in T3 and an appropriate group participation tests does not take its place.
For most tests, 3 points seems appropriate, since usually several people are helping to lead. Pilgrimage being an obvious exception since the group is smaller and Pyramid Building being weighted based on the size of the Pyramid.
Architecture
- Test of the Megalopolis
- Points per pass 3; Leaders and Assistants would be able to receive points.
- Linking via Foremen’s Compound that would be converted into the Mega center section when the actual building phase started.
- The Test of Life
- Points per pass 3; Leaders and Assistants would be able to receive points.
- Linking via Foremen’s Compound that would be converted into the Pump when the actual building phase started.
- The Test Of Seven Phoenix
- Points per pass 3; Leaders and Assistants would be able to receive points.
- Linking via Foremen’s Compound, not converted.
Worship
- The Test of The Vigil
- Points per pass 3; Leaders and Assistants would be able to receive points.
- Linking via Vigil Sanctuary (Foremen’s Compound with a more worship like name), which would have the option to build an adjacent Sacrificial Bonfire. Since multiple fires might be needed to pass the test and the fire goes poof at the end of the sacrifices, the Vigil Sanctuary remains after the fire burns out.
- The Path of the Pilgrim
- Points per pass 1; Leaders and Assistants would be able to receive points.
- Linking via who started the Pilgrimage group at the University of Worship.
- The Pilgrimage Leader can promote Assistants via the test menu.
- The Test of Festivals
- Points per pass 3, to anyone who is an organizer or a supplier. This is basically a “we are trusting you” to give points to your festival organizers and festival suppliers.
- Linking via University of Worship when you would sign up to start the test. Organizers and Suppliers would need to sign up to be a listed Organizer or Supplier and this list would be viewable by anyone at any University of Worship.
- Organizers and Suppliers can be removed permanently from the list and eligibility for points via a passed law ballot, if they fail to help organize or provide supplies. This is the mechanic to remove Egyptians who sign up with no intent to actually help.
Pyramid Building
Leaders and Assistants would be able to receive points. Variable Points and Number of “Passer” Based on the size of the Pyramid, I would suggest this progression. . .
- 3 Tiers - 1 Point per “Passer” and 9 Passers
- 5 Tiers - 2 Points per “Passer” and 16 Passers
- 7 Tiers - 3 Points per “Passer” and 25 Passers
- 11 Tiers - 4 Points per “Passer” and 36 Passers
- 15 Tiers - 5 Points per “Passer” and 49 Passers
- 19 Tiers - 6 Points per “Passer” and 64 Passers
- 25 Tiers - 7 Points per “Passer” and 81 Passers
- Linking via Foremen’s Compound that would be converted into the Pyramid Construction site when the actual building phase started. Until it is converted into a Pyramid Construction site the size and type of Pyramid would not need to be declared, allowing the Leaders to switch it to a larger size Pyramid, if the current size already has 7 built. Until it is converted into a Pyramid Construction site, the Foremen’s Compound should not be able to have blocks loaded. The Passers being the people who did the most amount of work. Work being defined as the number of timers or timer equivalents (Ancient Automatons) that are credited to the project by each individual Egyptian. Once a person joins a Pyramid project, all of the Focus Timers (Tap a bore rod) and Endurance Timers (Digging or Pushing limestone blocks) clicks would be counted that are near that pyramid would be assigned to that pyramid. The people with the most clicks did the most work. Clicks pushing limestone blocks away from the Pyramid would not be counted and dialog would pop-up and say “You are pushing this block in the wrong direction”
Law Making
- Getting a Law Passed
- 3 Points per Law Passed for the Petition Writer. (Automatically awarded)
- 1 Point per Law Passed for the Petition Carriers. (Automatically awarded) Carriers would needed to be carrying the petition prior to the first time the petition was balloted and carrying when the law was passed. Starting to carry after the petition has been balloted receives no reward even it is re-balloted and passes on a second try.
- Linking via writing or carrying a Petition.
Endgame Monuments
- 3 Points for each supporter, which can be awarded to any of the Oracles (Leader), Sages/Masters/Scribe (Assistants) in the monument. In the case of any Monument having less than 3 eligible to receive points Assistants, the next level (Journeyman) would be considered Assistants for pointing purposed.
- Linking via Monument Construction site.
Other Tests and Activities
Other tests/activities can be added at the whim of Pharaoh or by legal action.
If a new test/activity seem to fit the spirit of the test in T3 or another tale, a petition can be circulated and if passed as a law that Test or activity could be added to this test. Pharaoh would determine the number of points and passers for this new test/activity.
Passing
Based on the current tests and activities 147 points would be an appropriate number needed to pass.
Here is how the mechanic would work. . .
- The initial Leader, the Foremen’s Compound builder, would need to choose a project. The initial Leader of a Vigil Sanctuary, Oracle in the case of monuments or Pilgrimage groups, already has their “project” based on which one they started. There is no “project” involved with Law Making. There is no initial leader for Festivals.
- People could then join these projects.
- Any Leader can accept Supporters
- Any Leader can promote others to Leader or to Assistant
- Any person visiting the projects structure could get a Leader/Assistants/Supporters list similar to what you would get when you visit a monument.
After each individual passes a test or a project is competed, they could get a dialog similar the “?” polls either directing them to their test menu to assign their points or it could ask for people to assign their point at that time.
To be eligible to award points, you must have been a member of the project at some point and get a pass in the case of tests or help complete that project for non-tests.
Each Egyptian can only award one point to any leader or assistant for each pass or project completed.
A leader need not have passed the test in question or pass along with the group that the leader is helping. This allows a leader to lead a test more than once or pass at a different time.
This dialog would have a click box for every Egyptian eligible to assign a point to. Every Leader/Assistant, both current and past, would be listed. You would still get this dialog even if you were no longer in the project associated with the test or activity just completed, so long as you passed the test in question with that group’s help or you are eligible to award points in the case of a pyramid. Egyptians would have the option to not assign any or all of their points if the leadership was poor (like voting zero for a host). Each Egyptian can only assign 1 point to each Leader/Assistant, this will encourage leaders to work together, rather than just wasting the points by running most activities solo. This dialog would also indicate if the person had already passed this test, once passed an Egyptian would no longer be eligible to receive any more points. This dialog would also indicate if the person is Quit or Expired and for how long.
- Points cannot be awarded to Leaders/Assistants that are Quit over 15 days or expired over 30 days.
- Point awards are secret and the Leader/Assistant will only know that they got points, not who they got them from.
- Leaders/Assistants cannot vote for themselves.
- You may participate in several of the same tests or projects, but you may only assign points to the Leaders/Assistants in the project that you received the pass from or was just completed. For example, if you join 3 aqua projects, your points may only be assigned to the Leaders/Assistants of the pump that feeds the tower you passed with. This is true even if you withdraw from the project. You may always opt to not assign any or all of your points. Similarly, you could be involved with more than one pyramid, in which case you could only assign points to the pyramid that just completed and to the leaders that lead that pyramid.
Promotions and Demotions
- At any time a Leader can promote others to Leader or to Assistant.
- At any time, anyone can nominate someone to become an Assistant; this could be a promotion or a demotion. If this were a promotion, the new Assistant would be eligible to receive points.
- Once nominated a 14-day timer starts, if at any point during this time more than 50% of the active membership votes yes, the person becomes an Assistant. This could be a promotion or a demotion. Once the 14 days are up the nomination is terminated. This person can be nominated again.
- Active Membership, shall be defined as online in the last seven days and NOT quit or exiled or dead. Yes, a person could be defined as active for part of the 14-day window and not part of another.
- If 50% is reached, any time prior to the end of the 14-day window, the Assistantship goes through.
- This mechanic will allow for Supporters to be eligible to be assigned points via being promoted and allow for the demotion of a leader that just allows his “friends” to be Leaders and Assistants.
- There is no voting mechanic to demote Assistants to Supporters. If they do a bad job leading, you can opt to not give them points at the end of the project or when you pass a test.
- At any time Egyptian may withdraw from project or demote. However, if you were a Leader or Assistant, you may still receive points after the project is completed or when passes are awarded. Withdrawing is primarily intended to be a way to get rid of a chat tab after the project is done and points have been awarded.
How will passing work. . .
There are many routes to get 147 points; the short answer is to organize 49 people to each pass 3 tests. . . Organize 3 megas with a new crew of participates each time. . . Lead your primary guild and help a variety of people pass. . . Get in to the Pyramid Building business. . . Mix and match activities.
Based on T2 and data from the wiki and system logs for the tests listed above and Pyramids built, enough points have been generated to pass 85 people. The desire to pass this test will hopefully get more leaders to organize more tests & activities and for leaders to get more newer players involved. The monuments themselves will generate 18 passes worth of points.
The test is meant to reward leaders that are in it for the long haul.
After a person has passed that they are removed from receiving any more points, but a true leader will probably still help to organize activities and have their protégés be Leaders and Assistants with them.
The Reward
This rewards the people in general and one of the leader’s projects after they have passed. . .
A system announcement and free global waypoint that lasts one Egyptian day (8 real hours) and that every person within 100 cords of this location (they can get there by any means, they do not have to use the waypoint) gets a stackable +7 to the attribute that the leader declared when the free global waypoint is called in to existence. This +7 would last the duration of the waypoint and would effect everyone with in 100 cords of the waypoint. Hopefully, leaders will use this power to assist in the completion of another project. If several leaders worked together, on a project like a 25 Tiers Pyramid, having all of those +7 stacking and having food stack on top of that would greatly assist in the completion of this new project. This bonus turns off if you leave the 100 cords area, but turns back on upon entering it.
