Summary

I have tried to collect a summary of vines below. I used wines because I hope the short sequences would be easier to spot some patterns in.

Here's some thoughts about the above results.

First, it seems genes can only be mutated in the circle O - U - Y - R - O, you cant have a change U-R or a change O-Y. (Well, so far...)

Second, it seems that the distance is proportionnal to the length of the chain. ie in a chain KYOROYOROYK (lenght 11), results are KYOROROROYK and KYOYOYOROYK, which makes the distance of three.

A formula seems to appear : the distance of swap is proportionnal to the lenght of the chain as following distance = (lenght of chain +1)/4 rounded up. This would mean

Chain Lenght Distance
7 2
8 3
9 3
10 3
11 3
12 4
13 4
14 4
15 4
16 5

Combined with the circle of 4 genes U - Y - R - O - U is a troubling coincidence. --Ankh-el-Pandemis
