Student's Casting Box

One of two types of Casting Box for turning Metal into worked products. It uses less Charcoal than the Master's Casting Box but is unable to make some of the larger items or batches of smaller items. The student box requires 100 charcoal to fire, eats 80 initially and then 1/minute until stopped (giving you 20 minutes of casting time right away).

Making an item takes the appropriate resources from your inventory (they do not need to be loaded into the casting box in advance) and then starts a cooling timer (see the table below). When the timer finishes, the item is complete and can be taken from the casting box at any time, even if it is fired up and cooling another item.

Note: If the casting box stops prematurely (either manually or by there not being any charcoal left to burn) then any item currently cooling will be lost.

Useful info and suggestions

• Charcoal can be added at any time, even while working, to extend the running time of the casting box. If you're not sure an item is going to cool in time, simply add a few more charcoal to ensure it.
• Stopping the casting box as soon as your very last item is finished cooling will save any extra charcoal from being used up. You do not need to leave it running and can remove excess charcoal, later.
• If you have the time, try to make as many items in one sitting as you can, as this saves on charcoal 'wasted' to fire up the casting box (this becomes even more important for the Master's Casting Box). If you only have a couple of items to make, consider asking others if they also need items manufactured; saving them the wasted charcoal will, no doubt, be appreciated. :)

Comments

• All charcoal-consume and item cooling times are in TeppyTime.
• The item that is currently cooling (if any) is stated in the popup-window, when you access the casting box.
• There is no visible 'timer' showing how long an item has left to cool, though you can use the charcoal counter to judge it and there is both a sound effect and a message to your Main tab when an item is ready.

There seems to be some syntactic difference between these messages: some give a specific "Your <itemname> is ready." whereas others just return a strangely generic "Your item is complete." (not sure of the exact generic message - my chatlog doesn't go back that far) The difference seems to be dependent upon the sub-menu the item is situated in, if any. ~Katerina (22-Feb-08)
