Known Flavors

This is a listing of all the flavors we've found so far this telling. The numbers in parentheses by the Tier 3 flavors indicate how many vintages a wine must age before the flavor can appear.

Wanted a list of the major flavors ("Secondary Tastes" above) by the vintages they appear, so I added that here. ~Calixes

(a) Reported by Kal
(b) Saurkraut might appear before v8. ~Calixes // found at vintage 4 ~Pascalito
(c) Same here, Diesel could appear at vintage 7 or 8 but not 6 I think ~Eigam
(d) Could be earlier - got at v2. ~Calixes; Can confirm it is Vin 2 flavor ~Anduan
(e) Could be earlier -- discovered at age 7 (MomMouse) & age 8 (Blogmul). I can confirm at 7. ~Calixes
(f) Could be earlier ~TheMazeEcho I got it in 8 ~Ender
(g) Raisin could be earlier than 8. ~Matk; I got raisin in a 6 vint wine. -Allya; I got it in 5. ~Calixes
(h) This may mean that wines will go off over time - Teper | got it in a wine with other stuff. just looks like another flavor. ~Calixes
(i) This could be 3 or 4. ~Matk

(z) Tested this for the first time at vintage 8. ~Calen found at 3 vintages (Hétérika) *I didn't see "moldyness" for this flavor...only "earthyness". ~Calixes
(aa) Might be v0. Drank on a good table but got no other intermediate flavor category. ~Calixes
(ab) Vintage 7 flavors by my repeated tests ~ Telanoc
(ac) Someone reported at 21, I got it at 18, but could still be less. ~Calixes
(ad) Got this on a v5 (vintage 63) --Tedra

Not sure where it would fall but got Mildew (low tier) and Moldyness (high tier) flavor in a vin 11 bottle(current vin was 26)~Anduan

Reading The Flavor Chart

Numbers in brackets are how many vintages old the wine was when the flavour first appeared in the wine.
If a wine contains flavours that have not developed at the wine's current vintage age, those flavours will not be detectable when the wine is tasted. If no flavours are detectable, a wine will report being "Thin" and not give tasting checks for quality. As the wine ages and flavours come in, the wine will stop being Thin.

Note that it is the age on the Secondary Taste that brings the flavour in, not the Taste Category or Primary Taste. For example, Bell Pepper (0) and Mint (1) are both Vegetable/Freshness flavours. However, if a wine only has the Mint flavour in it, it will report as Thin until it is one vintage old, and not give the Vegetable or Freshness flavours. Bell Pepper, on the other hand, will show Vegetable, Freshness, and Bell Pepper flavours on different glasses starting at zero vintages old.

Rumored Flavors

These are flavors that have been reported in EVIL chat or other places but not fully documented.

Ping's Correctly Composed Flavor Compilation

I've removed all references to any sort of mention of a '64x64 flavor grid'. It's simply wrong.

If you'd like to read about how flavors work, please read below. This is a complete explanation :)

For those of you who have brewed beer, I like to think of wine flavors as microbes. In the same way you'd do a yeast test, thats the way grape flavors show up. If you don't know how microbes work, please keep reading!

Think of wine flavors as varying sizes of 'Overlapping Flavor Blobs' - non-defined shapes of flavor areas that overlap. Generally, if you find Chocolate in one coordinate, likely the coordinates around it will have some degree of Chocolate in it. It could also have more prominent other flavors from surrounding 'blobs'. As your palate increases, you'll begin to see the more subtle flavors.

For example, you grow grapes on a vine, bottle and drink the wine and you get a wine that is Overflowing with Bell Pepper.

Now, You grow grapes on a vine 1 or 2 coords next to it. You bottle the wine, drink it, and (provided you have a palate increase or two) You get a wine that is Overflowing with Grapefruit, with Hints of Bell Pepper.

Chances are, if you move the location of your vineyards around that spot, you'll get varying amounts of Grapefruit, Bell Pepper, and perhaps other flavors that haven't shown themselves yet. They'll show up in later vintages as hints and aromas! This is explained below.

Each flavor has a certain vintage value assigned to it. When you drink a wine, if that wine is that many vintages old, the flavor will show up.

If you bottle 3 wines from the same batch of grapes, put them in a barrel, and instantly bottle them. They will obviously all be the same wine. If you take 1 of those wines to your table immediately and drink it, it will show up with all the Vintage Value 0 wines that your vineyard produces. An example of a Vintage 0 flavor is Bell Pepper.

If your wine has no Vintage 0 flavors in it, It will be a 'Thin' wine. Stash those other bottles away for a later date.

If you wait one game month (1 vintage or about ten RL days), take that second bottle of wine, and drink it, you'll get all the Vintage 0 AND Vintage 1 flavors that your vineyard produces. So you NOW might get a Bell Pepper and Butterscotch wine! (Butterscotch is a 1 Vintage Flavor.)

And so on down the line!

If you wait 3 more game months, who knows what you'll get, but you'll get all those rarer flavors that those impatient wine drinkers might not have discovered yet!

Age your other bottles of wine for more vintages and you might find that your vineyards have way more than two flavors!
