Now that we have a route, I've adjusted our resource needs to be actual cost instead of estimated costs. And the good news is that we *aleady* have every non-tile item we need to build our first 20 towers!
I've updated the resource pages to account for that, and created a new one to give points for some expansion materials. We no longer give credit for raw material gathering for the expansion, but if you can't help us collect reli tiles you can still contribute by donating expansion items.
Thank you everyone for your hard working getting us to this point! As always, if I have screwed up somewhere (such as the gravel page) please let me know.
I'd also like to talk a bit about the route. As just mentioned, it saves a bundle of resources because the towers already have high elevation and don't need to be raised as much as a sea-level tower would. However, many of these towers are on rocky ground and cannot grow vegetables. In the long term, I am convinced that MarvL's route will serve as an excellent regional improvement and give many passess to 7L residents as well as inexpensive principles to all who want them. But I want everyone to be aware of the fact that our route has built into it a large set of ties. Our first set of passes will be delayed a few weeks while we accumulate "retained passes" to give out to all of the towers we have on the first mountain. So once we build, I ask for some patience. You *will* pass, but it will take a few weeks to happen.
A final note, our guild hall is getting full. Once our line is built and expanded, we will need to continually pump our first tower to keep it supplied with water, so I hope everyone will stay to help out. But if you plan to leave the guild after building your tower, that's OK too. Please let me know in a private chat which is the case so I can determine whether or not it is worth getting more boards to expand our guild.
It's been a bit slow gathering the tiles we need, but it feels great that everything else is ready to build!
Resources continue to accumulate at unbeliveable speed. Clay, wood, boards, simple metals are all done. The only remaining (unpledged) tasks: Make moonsteel in a reactory, 250 canvas still needed (maybe), reli tiles, and massive amounts of gravel smashing and stone cutting. Orchid brokered a trade for yellowish tiles; with hard work we should be through with everything except tiles by the end of this week. Anyone can help cut stone or smash gravel; we should have solo/pair dig food up soon if you have a good shovel. Gravel smashing is best done in a group of 4 or so; one smashes and the rest act as pickers.
OK, finally got done updating things after 8+ hours of work (hard to count resources when people keep handing you more :-) We are making fantasitc progress. While I have probably miscounted both the assigned and the total points, we have passed the halfway mark! Including pledges, the work is all done for brick, clay, wood, and board gathering. Fewer than 100 pipes remain and we will happily pass out clay to make them. Our big sticking point --- no surprise --- is reli tiles. We need yellowish very badly, and could use a few more pinkish ovens as well. And of course vast quantities of "any color" tiles and black tiles. Other than tiles, we still need your labor crushin stones to gravel, digging up cuttable stones and cutting them. We also need iron to make into moonsteel, and canvas.
Please take a moment to see if you have any "pledged" points. These are items you haven't delieved yet, please don't forget! Also, please remind your friends and guildies to join if they live in 7L and are interesed in at least the principles of the test of life. Please list yourself/your guildies under "principles" or "mules" as appropriate.
Fianally, I am pleased to reveal a poorly-kept secret. We are in fact building along the Harmony Ridge route. This is a very nice layout that provides for a large number of towers near population centers while having only a few really tall (expensive) towers. Once we open the line for expansion, I expect it to be relatively easy to fill out the route. Thanks to MarvL for developing the route and explaining repeatley why it didn't matter that the hill "sloped up hill" until we finally understood! In closing, remember that you can alway with questions/concerns/whatever.
There are 80 Towers and, because the average base elevation is 60 feet, the average tower height is only 140 feet. If you want to calculate the projected costs, the Pump is 400 feet high, and we'll have 80*140 = 112,000 feet of Tower to build.
Pledged resources are coming in at an amazing rate, so things are coming together nicely.
Guild news (please repost at least a summary when it scrolls off so people logging on will see it, and I do apologize for the length):
Please welcome our kinsmen: Orchid, Farrar, nourbese, and LazyBum, with more added as neeed. The idea is that you stash your completed pledges in the chest farm and either notify the guild or update the wiki. A kinsmen will update our resource tables and change your pledge status to "verified" or "confirmed" or whatever wording they chose. Those are the "finalized" points that will appear the next leaderboard update.
Also, kinsmen are the people to turn to if you wish to, for example, turn guild iron/tin into steel.
If you have any reli ovens you plan to use for 8L tiles, please list them on our wiki. If you have any access at all to a "yellowish" oven, pleae let Yendor know; if none turn up soon I will begin trading guild resources for them.
Time is running out for comments on the point allocation scheme at http://perl.atitd.wiki/wiki/tale3/Guilds/The_Eighth_Lake/Resources. Should the guild give points for charcoal used in smelting ore? If a quarry yields 18 marble, should that give 4 point or 5 including the prospecting? Is 125 canvas to many for 1 point? No one seems to want to donate raw clay -- should point values for that be increased?
Finally, our initial build will be 20 towers. Our guild is making fantastic progress toward that goal, but I can't help but notice that fewer than 20 names appear in our pledge lists. By contributing even a few points toward the pump and initial expansion, you give yourself priority over mules and non-contributors and may even qualify for the initial build. So break out the hatchet and tell your guild you want exclusive accecss to their brick machine!
