Exchange Vault Creation Act
Conditions
- Whereas the economy of the great realm of Egypt is being stifled to a trickle yet should be flowing broad and deep as the Nile
- Whereas the current merchants are legendary and yet they are few and far between
- Whereas the flow of trade is greatly reduced by the difficulties not only of scheduling face to face interaction, but also by the then necessary negotiation of goods desired and available in exchange
- We, the people of the Land, beseech the Pharaoh to provide a secure, simple method whereby trade can effectively be conducted between parties who may be offline to each other
Proposal
- We hereby propose the creation of a dual chambered chest called an "Exchange Vault" which functions as follows:
- The owner of the vault places goods into the outbound chamber
- Sets or selects a single type of good and a quantity for the inbound chamber
- Specifies either an account or "public" as the authorized user of the inbound chamber
- The authorized purchaser places the expected good in the expected quantity into the inbound chamber
- Selects the Exchange option
- The vault verifies the inbound chamber matches the good and quantity desired by the owner
- Locks the inbound chamber and unlocks the outbound chamber
- The authorized user takes the merchandise purchased from the outbound chamber
- The owner, on returning, recieves the expected goods from the inbound chamber
Effects
- With this single building the internal economy of the Land can be enabled and stimulated to a degree unseen by our ancestors.
- Existing markets will multiply their current volume levels in efficiently serving many more customers than they currently can reach
- New public and private trade will be enabled and encouraged by the improvement over currently available "face to face" or clumsy "2-box exchange" methods
- Specialization will be encouraged and supported, allowing for greater access to differing technologies
Fine Print
- Different sizes of vaults equivalent to different sizes of chests are requested
- A vault has a description line like a chest
- A vault has a counter showing the time since the owner filled the vault, allowing the owner to manage offer expirations
- The vault contents are limited to valid chest contents, removing the possibility of creating a livestock storage container
- As noted above, multiple outbound items can be offered, but for reduced programming and selection complexity, only a single inbound good can be specified, with its required quantity
- As with a chest, the owner can be a single account or a guild rank
- The vault allows only one account at a time to use itself, eliminating owner scamming potential
- On selecting the Exchange option, the authorized purchaser recieves a confirmation and authorization message detailing the contents of both chambers
