Once you have a paid account, you can benefit from the time that you're not logged in. The default effect is the accumulation of travel time (also known as 'waypoint time', 'nav time', 'offline time', and 'chariot time'), which you can use for:
There are five other chores that your avatar can work on while you're logged out of the game, and you can choose just one or divide the time among them as you like. The chores are not available right away, because you first have to 'unlock' them by performing the task manually for a while. Once they have been unlocked, you will see buttons in the Utility/Offline Chores menu that you can use to choose them. If you choose more than one chore, the time will be divided proportionally among them.
Chore | To Unlock | Resource accumulated |
Travel time | paid account | 1 hour of waypoint time per Teppy-hour |
Grow onions | Grow 500 onions | 24 onions per Teppy-hour (576/day) |
Pick grass | Pick 500 grass | 40 grass per Teppy-hour (960/day) |
Harvest wood | Harvest 2500 wood | 30 wood per hour (real time) (720/day) |
Grow barley | Grow 1000 barley | 10 barley per Teppy-hour(240/day) |
Grow cabbage | Grow 2500 cabbage | 20 cabbage per hour (real time) (480/day) |
(The "Resource accumulated" column is for the speed at which you get those items if you spend all of your offline time on that chore. It needs to be measured for Tale 3.)
Notice that in ancient times (i.e. earlier Tales) with later technological advancements, gathering resources with Offline Chores is a waste and Travel time is much more valuable. Grass can be collected using a Greenhouse, Wood using a 6k+ Hatchet, vegetables grown near aqueducts for 30+ yields and Barley grown by Students of Worship. Time will tell if similar considerations will apply in our time.
The chores are pretty slow, and for many people the travel time is far more valuable than the other options. The idea of value comes from time equally spent in the game. Travel time is used at 5-10 times the running time. For instance, 1 hour of running might use 8 hours of travel time. (For more information, see Travel.) This takes 8 hours to accumulate offline. In comparison, 500 grass, which takes 12 hours of offline time, could be collected relatively quickly - either by gathering or via processing flax - shouldn't take more than a couple hours. The same goes for most other offline chores.
However, for those players who do not play as often, travel time will build up quickly, and can become worthless in large quantities (i.e., using 30 days of travel time will probably take you a while). In this case, it is best to use your offline time chores to do something monotonous which you'd rather avoid or you simply don't have time for.
