Topic is currently being discussed at http://www.atitd.info/forum/showthread.php?p=11815#post11815

What is the ELAS?

The Egyptian Legal Aid Service(ELAS) is a group aimed at improving the currently lacking Egyptian system of laws. Our current legal system is comprised of witch hunts and uninformed executions. The ELAS seeks to bring Egypt out of the dark ages. The ELAS is not seeking to control the legal system, but rather offer citizens a more preferable alternative to the chaotic system that is currently in place.

What does the ELAS do?

The ELAS is seeks to combine law and justice by bring ethics and fairness back into the use of the legal system. The ELAS's first objective will be to write petitions for the people of Egypt to vote on. These petitions define an action in clear detail and declare it 'unethical'. If Egypt votes to accept the given description as unethical, then the ELAS will next attempt to define a punishment for the action. Once an unethical action and a punishment have been defined, if will be posted in the ELAS's constitution.

A list of petitions in circulation, Sucessful petitions, current cases, and the Egyptian constitution can be found here along with examples in the relevant forums. There is also a public discussion forum there that registered members can post in.

How do ELAS laws work?

The first petition shall state that anyone wishing to have someone convicted under an ELAS law must go via the ELAS process.

Step 1:

A grievance is filed. Someone approaches an ELAS claiming a breach of one of their laws.

Step 2:

A hearing is organised. Both parties are warned of the process and will be given a minimum 3 days notice to prepare witnesses, evidence, etc. Hopefully the hearing will take place via a radio channel with the 2 parties stating there cases with an ELAS member present to keep the hearing structured.

Step 3:

A copy of the conversation, links to relevant screenshots, and any other submitted evidence shall all be posted in 1 bundle in the 'current cases' forum for all to view. A petition shall be drafted asking the people of Egypt is they find the accused party guilty. If 2/3 of Egypt find the accused guilty, then the already agreed upon punishment goes into effect.

Limitations & Jurisdiction

The ELAS will not take any part in laws outside its own juristiction, ie. not of its creation and is in no way an authority of any kind.

Membership

The ELAS welcomes all those who wish assist Egypt in improving is current legal methods.
