If you are just starting out, please keep in mind that although the tech tree does include how to make a Pyrotechnics Laboratory and Barrel Grinder, it is not necessary to make these buildings yourself. There are many publicly usable labs and grinders spread all across egypt (see Public Pyro Labs for just some lab locations, barrel grinders are even more common). If you don't know where one is nearby, ask you local metaguild!
