The Test of Festivals

Signing Up

You must be level 14 or higher (and apparently need certain other skills) to sign up at any UWorship . When you try to sign up, if you don't get a popup, check Main to see if you're getting a message that may give you more information.

And if you do see specific information from the Uni on the skills needed, please insert it here. ;)

Principles

Overview

The Test Of Festivals requires you to perform a series of rituals with other people to appease each of seven gods -- Isis, Osiris, Bastet, Ra, Maat, Hathor, and Thoth. Each god has a separate ritual which must be performed to please him/her. Some aspects of the rituals will vary for each player and will change with each successful festival done. These rituals are listed toward the bottom of the page.

The hardest parts of this test are:

  1. Finding a supplier that has the fruit, flavored beer, flavored wine, etc. that you need.
  2. Coordinating a time that 3 or more people throughout Egypt can do a festival.

Get Some People Together

This test, like the others in the discipline of Worship, is very group oriented. Performing a festival by yourself accomplishes nothing (except resetting your requirements for all gods). Instead, large festivals involving as many people as possible should be organized (3 seems to be the minimum this telling). Each person who participates in a festival contributes 1 point to that festival's total participation. Each point represents a single percentage point towards that god's satisfaction. Your standing with each of the seven gods must be raised to 100% to pass the test.

When players successfully perform a ritual, they will gain a percentage of satisfaction with that god equal to the number of participants who perform a ritual to the same god 30 minutes beforehand and 30 minutes afterwards. Therefore, it is optimal for everyone participating in a festival to perform the ritual within the same 30-minute window, so they all get credit for each others' performance. Participants do not need to be in the same location; they can be scattered all across Egypt so long as they do the ritual in the same block of time.

During the last Bastet Festival, after some confusion with my requisites, I did not sacrifice until 45 minutes after the announcement, and received the popup window (and the points) 45 minutes later than everyone else. Perhaps the window is an hour either way?

Large vs. Small Festivals

It is possible to pass this test by doing many, many festivals with just a few people each time, which takes a lot of time and materials. The other option is to participate in large, organized festivals such as those currently hosted by FC once weekly. This manner of passing the test is probably the least painful.

Large festivals are usually coordinated using the FCN microphone. You may /join FCN at any time to see the most recent messages on the microphone. Tune in 2 hours before the festival to keep abreast of information like "what altars are being operated, and by whom?" Members of the guild "Festival Connection" will generally be coordinating these large festivals.

Waiting Period Between Festivals

After successfully participating in a festival, a player must wait 16 Teppyhours (not 24) before they try another, though s/he may test for requirements at any time with no ill effect. Successfully participating in a festival will change your requirements for all gods. This is often used to "reset" a particularly difficult requirement by performing a one-person festival to another god with easy requirements, such as Isis.

How You Know If You Did It Right

Successfully performing a ritual will display a message box right away telling you the god is pleased. About an hour after your sacrifice, you will receive another popup telling you what percentage toward the god's satisfaction you and the other participants achieved. The requirements for all gods will immediately change after a successful sacrifice. If is handy to bring testing supplies with you to see your new requirements immediately after participating...No need to wait for the percentage popup.

If something goes wrong (i.e. you used the wrong components, you missed a step, etc.), you will immediately receive a popup telling you that your attempt failed (though the wording may vary). Your requirements will not change, and you can try again any time - even right away. However, you'll have to find replacements for any goods that were consumed during your failed attempt.

Getting What You Need and Where You Need to Be

This test requires considerable effort beforehand, though there are plenty of people willing to help you get the things you need to succeed. The festival suppliers topic should help with finding a supplier, and the festival schedule topic lists the date and time of upcoming festivals. You can try asking in game for your supplies in the FCN channel (/join FCN), though it is much more reliable to contact your suppliers directly as they may be too busy to monitor the FCN chat. The Festival Altars page should list some locations where the necessary setup has been done for certain festivals.

If you need something from a supplier, make sure you give them several days notice (or even more, when possible)! Trying to obtain supplies on the day of the festival is often way too late.

Ritual Descriptions

While the procedure of each ritual is always the same, specific details will be different every time you participate. To learn how to determine the specific requirements for each god's ritual, see Determining Festival Requirements. Some rituals will require costly set-up, such as glass torches or spirit braziers; see Festival Altars for a list of locations which are already set-up.
