New Arrival in Egypt

Once you have decided on a city, it is time to get started. Now, despite having chosen your city, you'll want to start with the best, to get the furthest through the research and tests as possible. This is sort of a walkthrough for Karnak newbie, it is certainly not conclusive.
As you begin in Egypt, take note of the resources you pass, especially things like clay, silt, limestone, etc. These are rare enough to frustrate you if you can't find them when you need them. You can't collect them just yet, because you need more skills and tools, but you'll want to remember where they are for later.

As your character begins discovering Egypt, you should trace a route that takes you to all of the Universities and Schools around your area. Below is one example that seems to work pretty well for me. I started in the circle, and ended up building my compound south of the CS, where the pink line ended. There are many other routes that work too I am sure, but this is one.

Karnak_Starting_Path

As stated below, the Initiation test of the Body is the easiest and fastest, so start there.

Here's a list of the first few levels and their respective technologies. I would try to get lvl 1 and 2 technologies right away, then build your compound and all the projects you are able to next. Return and get lvl 3, and 4 techs when you have materials pay for school tuitions too.

Be sure to Open all the tests possible as you reach each University. There is no down side to having the tests open, since they do not have any timers (except Body, as explained below), but it is difficult to know what to do next if you don't have the goals available. It will give you a materials list to set as a goal for each.

Skills

A quick note before going into the skills to acquire: Remember the differences between Universities and Schools. Listed below are the schools to target and tuitions to pay for the skills. Since University techs are free, I assume you hit these along the way and learn all available.
  1. The Body Initiation test is a fast and easy test, so do it right away and get to level 2. All the types of plants are quickly identifiable around the Karnak UBody area. Make sure and select walls down for the many mansions built near here to see the plants and trees. The last time I did it, I had 10+ minutes extra to find the 35 types. I finished it with 40-something types. Pick as many of the thorns as you can hold (300!), but only up to 30 sap.
  2. Now go to SThought to get your jug and pay tuition for kiln construction. This clears 20 item space, so you can fill it with thorns. With the newly acquired jug you can get clay, so get up to 10 flint, but only keep 10 clay, so you'll need to drop lots of clay to get the flint.
  3. Go to SArch and pay tuition for compound construction. This will empty out a good bit of your inventory (-300), so start collecting thorns, sap, clay, and flint as you run around, noticing the maxes mentioned above, especially the thorns. If you can get flint right away, then come back here for the Rock Saw Construction. If not, then come back later.
  4. Go to SBody and pay tuition for carving. Another 100 weight lifted. This first carving skill is essential to make flint knifes, for tinder and sharpened sticks which open the door to many more skills.
  5. Go to SLeadership After making 4 tinder, you can get firebuilding. This is a must for the whole charcoal and smithing range of skills.
  6. Go to SWorship if you have gathered enough thorns and get Foraging. This allows you to get all kinds of cool boosts from plants. use this page as a guide, especially for the END timers if you plan on digging!
  7. Return to SThought and get Pottery with your gathered clay. Unfortunately, you can't do much with this just yet, since you have to get other materials and skills, but at least this solves one step in the process.

At this point, you have completed just about everthing you can from the wanderer's standpoint. So, after taking a look around, it's time to decide where to establish your compound. Take note of the resources as you pass them by, and choose a place to settle down. It doesn't have to be near a CS, since you can't use them during the trial period anyway. Instead, you can use the starting positions to jump around the map, so choose a spot near a starting position. There are plenty of guides for that sort of thing, like here.

Expanding, Contributing

Having chosen a spot, here's a few focus points to get you started:

As of this point, I seem to have hit a snag, as my animal pens require food to keep the animals going, yet I cannot get veggies or barley without a paid account. I will see if I can get some and/or bypass the distribution center.
