Flowers

There are currently 3 types of flower:

At universities with the correct tech unlocked, you may request one flower bulb of the first two types per character (ie. you can only ever get one Sea Lily bulb per character, in all of Egypt). To acquire other types, trade for them. Sand Blooms have been awarded as a prize for the Garlic Festival.

Flowers are used to compete in the Test of the Formal Garden.

Flower availability

A Sea Lily bulb may be obtained at Universities of Worship with Horticulture unlocked (see Horticulture page for the types available and where). Information about the basic types (colours, sizes, etc) is on the Sea Lily bulb page.

A Rose of Ra bulb may be obtained at Universities of Worship with Xenobotany unlocked (see Xenobotany page for the types available and where). Information about the basic types (colours, sizes, etc) is on the Ra bulb page.

Care

A flower bulb can be planted, and then an hour later the flower will bloom. At this point you can fertilize a flower to produce additional bulbs. You can only fertilize a flower every 2 RL hours. Before a flower produces a bulb it will show signs indicating it will bulb soon. Continue fertilizing to get a bulb. A single flower can produce an unlimited number of bulbs. A bulb taken from a flower can be crossbred or stressed to produce a new strain, or planted to grow another identical flower. The number of fertilizations required before a flower shows signs of bulbing varies, depending on the type of flower and the type of fertilizer used. The Sea Lily bulb page lists some numbers for that bulb type.

Flower Fertiliser is made from Catfish, Perch, and Tilapia fish in a kettle. It can be processed into more powerful types of fertilizers in a kitchen (need the Advanced Horticulture tech).

Type Amount used per fert Time between ferts # of fertilisations
per application
Flower Fertilizer 20 2hrs 1
Harvest Elixer 80 8hrs 4? (1 per 2hrs)
Liquid Sun Fertilizer 20 2hrs 2 (seems to be randomly variable)
Sticky Sun Fertilizer 8 2hrs 2
Black Syrup Fertilizer 1 2hrs 12?

Breeding

Crossbreeding can be used to breed two bulbs of the same basic type of flower into new strains. For example, you can cross 2 different Sea Lily bulbs together (like Blush and Energy) to get a new strain. Which splint is used has a significant effect on the results (i.e. Blush/Energy is different than Energy/Blush). You cannot breed two flowers of the same strain together, except by renaming one bulb and then crossing them (this does result in normal crossbreeding but the results show little variation since both splints are the same as the parent). Crossbreeding uses one Nut's Essence. See the crossbreeding guide for more details on how this works.

In Tale 1, Stressed Breeding could be used on a single bulb to produce a new, slightly different strain, with the option of a left or right stress. This appeared to work in a circular fashion; left-stressing a bulb 5 times and then right-stressing 5 times gets you back where you started, and a certain number of stresses in the same direction (which number varies by strain) will bring you back where you started as well. Stressed Breeding used one Cobra's Bite Extract.
