Animals

Other languages:
Animals can be handled once the various techs (e.g. Animal Husbandry for sheep and camels) are unlocked. Some animals spawn randomly in the wild, while others have complicated rituals involved with luring and capturing them.

Animal Husbandry

Camels: Lured into a dromedary pen. After midnight every night, a camel spawns in each region of Egypt and enters the dromedary pen with the most straw within. The camel eats all the straw, and bunks down in the pen. Pens with close to the highest amount of straw report nibbles from wild camels when you check the pen a little bit after midnight. It is not uncommon for people to use their pen to store large quantities of straw for use in bricklaying.

Chickens: In Tale 2, lived in a chicken coop, where hens will lay eggs and eggs hatch into hens or roosters. Eat Barley. Either the egg comes first (found in trees when you have the Avian Selection tech), or the Chicken (Found in Grasses with the same tech).

Cobras: In Tale 2, lived in a serpentarium, slithering and eating eggs, rabbits, chickens and camel milk. Produces cobra skin, cobra venom and cobra blood.

Rabbits: Complicated critters to keep. In Tale 2, they required a rabbit hutch to breed in. Breed insanely fast when fed. Eat Carrots.

Sheep: Randomly spawn on grassy terrain, frequently in flocks. Must build a sheep pen or modern sheep farm to keep. Fed onions in a pen, or onions and thistle in a farm.

Silkworms?: Even more complicated critters. In Tale 2, they lived in a silkworm farm and had to be fed specific strains of thistles to produce raw silk.

Other animals

Bees: Live in a apiary and produce beeswax and honey. No maintenance costs.

Beetles: Randomly spawn. In ancient times, they were prized and bred for their coloration and entered into contests of breeding. Ancient species of Beetle ate many cabbages to retain their health and vigor. Modern beetles seem to be unhappy when kept together in chests and may eat one another.

Fish also produces animal products, but they cannot be corralled and bred by any, even with the skill of Animal Husbandry. We rely on the generosity of Hapi and the Gods of the waters to sustain us with fish.

Misc

There is some suggestion that playing Barry White or other similar music on an mp3 player while attempting to breed sheep or camels has a positive impact on the breeding rate.

-further studies have revealed that sheep in pens are not shy and will breed even if someone is watching them! -onlyaloha
