Guilds > Egyptian Metallurgical Research Association

History and Mission

The Egyptian Metallurgical Research Association (EMRA) was originally founded to investigate methods for producing alloys in Egypt. Since that time we have evolved into investigating other areas of study. Currently our main focus is Chemistry and the related technologies such as Metal Treatment. One of our founding principles has been the open exchange of information both within the group and with the community at large. However, when releasing such information has potentially negative impact on the community, it is beholden upon us to do so in a controlled fashion. More on this Here

Membership

Membership is open to all Egyptians who have a genuine interest in advancing our knowledge. The guildhall is located at 1403, 1739 near the chariot stop in Seven Lakes

Expanding aqueducts

Our universities have revealed the locations of two more herb growing areas, these are located in Cradle of the Sun, and northern Karnak.
Members of EMRA finished the task of raising and building towers to the Karnak site on May 25. Location is 2071, -501.
The CotS location will need a new pumping station.
EMRA has chosen to undertake the task of getting a tower to these locations.
If you want to help please look at the Aqueduct donations page.

How to Help

If you don't wish to join fully, you can still help the research efforts. There are two things that are always in demand, Spirits and macerator materials. To create essences, which are used to make compounds, you need to distill them, for which you need Spirits. Since the quality of the spirit determines the maximum output, we use nothing of lower quality than "Fire". We use spirits of all kinds, even grey spirits are used. The second thing are materials to distill in the macerator. These include: Herbs, Resins, Powdered Gems (both cuttable and regular), Powdered Pearls, Metal Salts, Marble Dust, and Camel Pheromones (Male and Female). It can consume large amounts of a material to determine its properties, over one hundred debens. We try to use cheaper materials whenever possible, but we will both need to determine the properties of the more expensive materials eventually, and there might come a time we have no choice but to use them

Current Needs

We have a drop off chest at 1410, 1769 next to the Essence of Harmony in Seven Lakes

Trees of Interest

One of the principle materials for the creation of compounds are tree resins. The reason for this is simple, they are both diverse and relatively plentiful. We would like to maintain a list of trees that are less common, such as the Feather Tree, so we know where to find them. Generally, if the location has some very rare tree type, or a large concentrations (five or more) more common trees.

Explosives Safety

Explosives Safety: I have created a CoC petition after consultation on the forums, and am working on a law petition. Additionally, I have created a table concerning safety of actions involving explosives. Please comment on the law, and help fill in the table. - Nefer-Bast.

Note, the explosives safety CoC petition was something created by a newly initiated member of EMRA, but not something discussed with or sanctioned by EMRA as a whole. Everyone needs to keep in mind that EMRA is a research-related chat guild comprised of individuals, and many things that have been done "in the name of EMRA" have actually been understaken by an individual member of the guild, or a small subset of the guild, but there is very little that has been done by the guild as a whole, contrary to popular public beliefe, and actually things said by members of EMRA. -- Nchanter
