Extra seeds
- Everyone at some point will have a special day that gives them 2 seeds per harvest.
- It doesn't matter what:
- Region you are in.
- Coordinates you are at.
- Your garlic yield is at harvest.
- People are nearby or how many there were.
- Time of day it is.
- Vegitables were being grown nearby.
- Buildings were nearby.
Yield
- Garlic yield seems not to be dependent upon: altitude, distance from land types other than sand, distance from water, number of people present (although this one could be some complicated thing that's not immediately apparent). The most miserable thing about it is the potential for zero yield, of course. -- Dachannien
- During my walk for vegetable seeds i have regularly planted some garlic seeds and i recorderd the yields: 1. I only got 2 and 3 yield in the very north of Sinai. When I get back to Qatara i will sure try to grow again up at the north. So far i noticed it isn't just a simple horizontal band going trough the whole of Egypt (see the 0 yield in CotS vs. the West. And if you could zoom in.. the 2/3 yields aren't separated by a straight line either). But it could mostly be person-dependant on the y-coordinate. I should also try in the southwest.. but won't come there for a while either. --ArmEagle
- Garlic yield (not seed yield) seems to depend on location: Arame and I moved NW/SE along the Nile and found spatial boundaries where our garlic yields changed. I got 9 garlic between latitude 4056 and 4095, inclusive (a 40-coord-wide band), but 1 garlic at 4096 and north, and 8 garlic at 4055 and south. Arame found a similar pattern, but not at the exact same latitude lines; his yield went from 6 at 4063 and south, to 7 between 4064 and 4095 (a 32-coord-wide band), to 1 north of 4096. Seed yields didn't change across these boundaries; I always got 1 seed, Arame always got 2. We rechecked these boundaries over a time span of about 30 minutes real-time, and they stayed fixed. We don't have much sand to our west, so we couldn't check for a western edge, and the Nile blocks us to the east. --Hekhemmut
- It seems to be entirely based on location, with no change due to time, presence of others, or altitude. I get 11 yield every try in a 25-coordinate or so patch at 3,6900. North, East, and South the yield gradually drops off at about 1 per 100-200 coords. However, going even 4 coordinates west and moving into negative X coordinates the yield drops straight to zero. This seems to be avatar-dependent, as several others only got 1 yield at my 11-yield spot, whether alone or together. It seems yields for many veggies change sharply when crossing X-coordinate 0 -- my leeks go from 11 at my garlic spot to 3 across the border, and others have observed similar effects on cabbage. I suspect a 1024x1024 tiled per-avatar yield map or something along those lines due to the sharp seam at zero X. --Archilochus
- The yield map seems to change at midnight. On I-12 my perfect spot gave 11, while just before midnight on I-13 the same spot gave 5 and just after midnight on I-14 the same spot gave 2. Perhaps seed duplication is also location-based and just seems to be day-based because it shifts at midnight too? --Archilochus
- Confirming that yield appears to change over extended periods of time - I was getting 0 yield on a spot in camp on Akhet I-11 and I'm getting 1 on Akhet I-14 -- FaceAnkh
- Confirmed seams at north-south multiples of 2048 as well. Will test on a non-2048 multiple of 1024 next. These seams strongly hint at a (daily, avatar-specific) tiled map of some sort. --Archilochus
- The daily maps either have multiple overlapping "peaks" instead of just one or are not just "distance from a certain point". At exactly 488,6790; 623,6600; and 255;6400 on I-15 (which also happened to be a seed day for me) my yield would be 5 while one coord east it would be 4. With a straight "distance from a certain point" this would suggest a peak at 6580,395 but the yield there was only 3 (increasing towards the west to 4 after 100 coords before I called it a night) --Archilochus
- East - West yields change at 4096, was 4 at 4096, -988 and 1 at 4095, -988 --Stonelion
- Tried finding a spot where I'd get more than a 1:1 ratio, with coordinates between 1190 -3160 and 1826 -2319(N-NE Kush), to no avail. This means I crossed a barrier of a latitudal 1024 multiple without experiencing a change. Did not pass a border of 2048/4096 (or any 2^11 multiple). --Spoiled
- Definitely location-based, with sharp boundaries at multiples of probably 2048. Grew four garlic in a row from 4094,-315 to 4097,-315, and the westmost two got 6 garlic each while the other two got 1 each. Within the larger area west of there, garlic yield fluctuated gradually - 50 coords west, yield was 5 rather than 6. --Dachannien
- PERSON/AVATAR dependent? I planted at my 5 spot, where I always get 5 whenever I happen to be there to plant. I told others to plant there too. Ivy reported she still only gets 1. We both went to spot and I get 5 and she gets 1. If I plant and she harvests she gets 1. If I harvest I get 5. This is for the EXACT spot in the sand. She also reported that she only got 1 at my other spot where I normally get 9, although we did not both go there to test as we did this spot at 394, 6928 in LE (W of Ubody). date: Jul 8 06

Extra seeds
- I consistently got an extra seed in an area whose diameter was at least larger than 75 coords over a span of time longer than 1 hour. Watering, etc. didn't seem to have any effect, and there was only one person in view so I can't say whether that affected things. First extra seed harvest was on Akhet I-4 in early evening (say 7:00PM gametime) at 860, 6241; I got 27 extra seeds in total (one at a time), the last successful harvest (when I gave up because of wrist pain) was at 837, 6168 at about 10:00PM gametime. I tried again at 980, 4876 over 2 in-game hours later and got 3 garlic, 1 seed. It wasn't until 17 teppyhours later that I could try again at the original spot, at which point I got 1 garlic, 1 seed. --Kuu
- After a long walk trough Egypt not yielding any garlic at all i finally arrived in West Kush. Planted there and got 1 garlig, 2 garlic seeds (-2758, -2732 2:09PM and bit later). Unfortunately i had to log soon, so could only get a few more extra seeds. I returned at 10:10AM and got 1:1 snifff. I decided to wait till the clock hit 2:09PM again. I was a bit later, but at 2:25PM I still simply got 1:1 ;(. Between 10:10AM and 2:25PM i walked east a bit, gathering herbs and trying to grow garlic; only got 1:1. So apparently extra garlic seeds isn't linked to static time and/or location. Before i got that 1:2 return i had walked trough desert for a long time (from Khartoum -> northwest -> Fool's Paradise). Who knows whether that can be the trigger. --ArmEagle
- Arame has been getting 7 garlic + 2 seeds all Egyptian day on Akhet I-9 from about 9:30AM Egypt time (when he first started growing) through at least 1:51PM Egypt time (he hasn't stopped yet). He's been growing on a patch of sand near the Nile, at (1186, 4087), very close to a camel pen and a sheep pen. Proximity to other people didn't matter; his yield stayed at 7 garlic + 2 seeds with 1 and 2 other people very nearby, and 1-2 others in the distance. I grew garlic all around him and got the same yield I always have at that spot (a very nice 9 garlic but only 1 seed), so it looks like it's somehow person-dependent. Judging from comments above, garlic seed reproduction doesn't seem to be tied to a particular Egyptian time of day, but it might be tied to an Egyptian day itself; we'll recheck after Egyptian midnight, if the yield doesn't change earlier. We're checking whether the proximity to the camel and sheep pens is significant; it doesn't seem to be, since our seed yields stayed the same for all subsequent testing described in the next section below. Arame's seed production dropped from 2 back to 1 after midnight Akhet I-10. This suggests that a garlic grower might produce garlic seeds only on some Egyptian days. Would be interesting if each player had a particular day (of the Egyptian month? Egyptian year?) when he/she could reproduce seeds. --Hekhemmut
At 1190, 4087 I got 1 garlic + 1 seed --
rumpotiphar
- Nannar was also able to produce 2 seeds all day today, regardless of location and circumstances. This ended at Egyptian Midnight. I attempted to duplicate her efforts in every way we could think of (including acquiring her specific inventory and making my avatar exactly like hers) yet I could not reproduce seeds. Due to Hekhemmut's similar experience, I believe that garlic seed production will be avatar-dependent and a percentage of the population, either randomly or due to some formula which we do not yet understand, will be able to grow seeds for one given day. The working theory, at this point, would seem to be "test it once a day and hope it's your lucky day". --Tilana
- Two people producing two seeds in Kush. The first is losiris, location 1256, -4100 time 1:45PM IG. Recently acro’d and had recently WP’d. She was holding a female beatle in her inventory. Camel pen nearby. Sheep pen within eyeshot. I could not grow a second seed. At the same time, SkyRaider was growing two seeds at location 848, 3973. He will submit his own story. I’ve tried using a female sheep so far, with no success.
- Planted garlic and got 1 garlic and 2 seeds. There are people planting at different locations and at the same time. They got 1 seed. When we tryed planting at the same location, I still got 2 seeds, while the others got 1 seed. This leads us to believe that the seeds are noe area dependant. Earlier in the course of the game I got 1 seed. Why I get 2 now is beyond me. I was carrying a male sheep at the time of the planting, but I droped this one of and ran for it. Tryed planting again and still getting 2 seeds. Doesn't seem to have any meaning. Could seeds be level related ? I am level 5 now and I always get 2 seeds, the others who planted were lvl 4 or less, and always got 1. -- SkyRaider
- Not level dependant, i was level 3 -i think- when i got my 2 seeds. It's good to know that others didn't get 2 seeds on the same spots. I had been carrying a sheep and multiple beetles for hours before i got that 2 seeds yield (for a long time before that i got 0 garlic, 1 seed though). --ArmEagle [please add your name :]
- Esme got 1 garlic + 2 seeds at 2380 3350 from Akhet I-10 5.30am repeatedly. She'd previously been growing onions nearby. The same spot at the same time yielded 0 garlic and 1 seed for me. If Esme harvested garlic I'd planted and watered, she still got the 1+2. -- FaceAnkh
- Just talked to Esme as midnight Akhet I-11 came and passed; she was getting 2 seeds per garlic up until midnight, and 1 seed immediately after. This matches Arame's and Nannar's experiences above. --Hekhemmut
- Seed days seem to be independent of location. On my day (I-15) I got always 2 seeds both in LE and Qatara over many different spread-out locations. --Archilochus
- Planted everyday from Ahket 19 to AhketII 3. Finally got my 'garlic day' on the third. I suspect that everyone has a day once a month where they get seeds. Also, I had 0 garlic yield (did samples all over Kush) the day before my seed day, may just be a coincidence. --Sed
- Having my first garlic seed day on Ankhet I-9, I again was able to grow seeds on Ankhet II-9. That should confirm the day-of-the-month theory. Contacted Esme in game, since her day is the 10th. --Arame
- Confirmed with Esme; seed reproduction is definitely tied to the day of the month. --Arame
- I just had my second 'garlic day' where they produced an extra seed. However this time, there were two instances where i got an extra seed on top of that. Only difference is that it didnt show in the main chat, it just left a seed behind after harvest. --Bartholomew
- I just had a strange 0-yield day. I was growing garlic and after a dozen or so I went to the Tug practice game. When I got back, I was unable to grow garlic. I logged in as my husband, Jaerl, and I was able to grow garlic just fine using the same spot, same seeds, same water jugs. The only difference is Jaerl is male while Saccia is female. I logged back in as myself and I could grow other veggies but not garlic. I'm in Sinai and I tried to grow garlic from SHarmony to UArt to way north of UWorship. UPDATE: The very next day, when I grew garlic I got extra seeds. --Saccia (This is the same experience I had; a day when yield suddenly went to zero and then the next day I got an extra seed. --Syrianna)
