NEW VERSION! OLD VERSION AT Events/Mysterious_Event/old ~TP
As you can tell, this page is being reorganized. Briefly, the list below will get you to any relevant sub-page, while simply reading this page will get you a good overview. I hope to have this organized into a better system over the coming days
We may want a section for 'completed' tablets so we know how much further we have to go

Mysterious Event

The Mysterious Event is an ongoing, global game event. It is still unsolved, and will require the coordinated effort of a large number of players to progress to its next stage, or to completion. Anybody can take part, and we desperately need more people to get involved. Please join the VoK Research Guild so that we can co-ordinate attempts to unlock the secrets of VoK better.

WARNING - READ THIS FIRST

WARNING: Do *NOT* under any circumstances to do following while within the Valley Of Kings region:

Performing any of these actions will 'anger the gods', and result in everybody within the region being forcibly teleported away, causing stress and hassle for everybody. Should you 'anger the gods', they will issue a warning to the player who 'did not tread lightly' in Main for all those ejected to see.

It's just best if you don't try to access your menu unless absolutely necessary. People simply trying to emote and accidently hitting projects have had regrettable results. For Acro...just pin it up carefully.

thestunt here, it seems this is no longer the case. I built a wood plane to test and have not been teleported out.
This was temporary and has now been fixed. The rules above apply!

How To Get Involved - A Quick Summary

Arrive via the Qatara Chariot and travel to complete the puzzles at the three altars (answers in The Entry Section ). You then need to find your avatar-specific combination of the items given to you at the altars. This may include multiple types of one, rather than one of each - you may need to trade for parts to find your correct order. If you need help with this, VoK Research have chests at -1697, 4356 containing spare pieces that you may borrow providing you return all the unused pieces once you have your Tablet. The fourth Altar will then transport you into the region, and present you with your Tablet. I estimate that this will take about an hour. You may then travel throughout VoK and attempt to match your tablet with the numerous meteors in the region. Use ArmEagle's Meteor Tracking Tool to keep a record of meteors tested. If you need help to use this, please chat one of the VoK Research Guild elders.

While you are at the Fourth Altar, please pop over to the GH nearby and apply to join VoK Research.

In the intervening time it has come to pas that the lands have been restored to their former glory, but how and why these events transpired remains one of the great mysteries of our time.

The answer to this mystery is sure to be found here, but tread lightly, for there is no question that we are only guests here, for now...

Valley Of Kings

This section will cover the specifics of what's going on in the VoK region, how to get involved, and what still needs to be done.

Entering The Region

It is possible to enter the Valley of the Kings from the Qatara entrance (-859, 6624) or the Desert of Shades entrance (-1699, 4424). However to participate in this event, you must gather the three altar fragments from the others at the wall: the Jagged Rock, the Meteor Fragment, and the Unusual Stone. You must then place these fragments, or some permutation of them, on the Strange Altar (-1690, 4353, DoS Entrance): when in the proper order and number, you are instantly transported to the Valley of Kings.

Combinations can include multiples of a given item, for example 2 Rocks and 1 Fragment. There are 27 different possible combinations. The 'Strange Altar' has 3 slots for you to place the items in. While the slot you place an item in is important, Left, Center, Right, the order you put them into those spots on the altar is not(i.e. you can place the left, center, or right one first). The correct combination will teleport you, otherwise you will get a 'Clear Altar' menu. Just clear the altar and try a different combination.

A warning note for those who have missed the very large messages: If you build or plant anything in the Valley of Kings, during this event, you will be automatically removed and sent to a random chariot stop, as will everyone else. That's ANYTHING -- from a hookah, to a compound, to a cicada cage.

Actually, hookahs may be ok. Firework mortars are, and hookahs are the same sort of drop building. - Nefer-Bast

Several chunks of informaton and clues have been given out in the System and Events channels by the developer 'Gentry'. Feel free to dig through for more information!

Note: Only by finding your correct combination of items on the fourth altar will transport you into the region, and will swap your items for your own 'Tablet' - you'll need to keep hold of this to participate. This tablet can then be used on one of the many meteorites that can be found in the VoK area.

A more detailed explanation

In story form now. Will expand ~TP

The Valley of Kings was a bustling region in the days of our ancestors, but when we went to go visit it again after repopulating this land, we discovered that it had been walled off by impenetrable cliffs. For months, we didnt know how we were supposed to enter the region. Eventually, several altars appeared, giving those who worshipped there (and solved puzzles connected to the altars), visions of the Valley of Kings and the gods' wrath on the region. Each altar also gave an item to the worshipper. At a fourth altar, supplicants can try and arrange these items, and upon success, are transported into the middle of VoK.

The location that the supplicants arrive at is a giant monolith, with a mysterious tablet in their inventory. The monolith tells more of the story of the Valley, and can accept a 'whole tablet'. We dont yet know exactly what this means... However, the tablets given by the 4th altar are NOT whole, but are 'broken'

Our best guess as to what this means involves meteors that litter the landscape of VoK. This has recently been confirmed and we have successfully repaired at least ONE set of tablets. The means in which this is done is to gather 7 people with the same tablet type around a matching meteor, and have one of them place the tablet on the meteor. Then, the repaired tablet can be donated back to the monolith. We need each of the 27 tablet types to be donated before the next step (or the solution?) can be revealed.
