Game Mechanics
The game and developers give us very little explanation as to how things work in the world. Part of the fun of the game for some people is discovering how things work. Some things are relatively simple and each person can figure them out on their own, other things are complicated and expensive and benefit from many researchers working together. If you're interested in figuring something out and would either like other people's help or would like to join an effort currently under way this is a good place to start.
Active Projects
These are projects which people are currently working on. If any of these projects are no-longer active please remove them. Also if you're started a new effort on any project please add a link here (wether it's completely new research, research that's also being done by others or restarting stalled research).
- Chemistry
- Status: Underlying model understood. Data on individual essences being gathered. Some data not being publicly shared until dangers of explosives can be determined and addressed. (updated Feb 08)
- Information: Chemistry Guide and Research
- Researchers: EMRA
- Cross Breeding and Mutagenics
- Status: The effects of crossbreeding and mutagenics are well understood but poorly written up (hopefully will change soon). The genetics of most flowers are solved, however flax and vines have not been. Current areas of work include creating and testing new mutagens, extending genomes, and figuring out the affects of genetic sequences in other plants. (updated Feb 08)
- Information: Crossbreeding Research (This page could use a rewrite :P), Mutagnics research
- Researchers: Orchid, Eigam, Ariella, Zaniac, EldradUlthran
- Metal Treatment
- Status: The mechanics of Metal Treatment are well understood and it can be used to produce Water Metal and Metal Blue however there is at least one other metal which should be produceable using Metal Treatment. (updated Feb 08)
- Information: Metal Treatment
- Researchers: Primoz
- Thistles
- Status: We have developed a thistles spreadsheet to simulate all the conversions that happen in a thistle garden. This can be used to work out which conversions are inactive (void) on each Egyptian day, and then used to design a recipe to grow the thistles you need. Currently we're looking for people willing to help us in creating a tool that would calculate a recipe based on the desired output.(updated Feb 08)
- Information: Thistles guide and Research
- Researchers: TwistedThistle
- Viticulture
- Status: Viticulture is fairly well understood as of Feb. 2008, though there are still a few details to nail down.
- Information: Calixes' Wine Guide (updated Feb. 2008), (the primary wiki guides - Viticulture Research and Wine Making Guide - both contain some good basic information but are both also full of inaccuracies and are way out of date)
- Researchers: EVIL, Calixes
Feel free to let Egypt know about the progress in Research by adding a News Item on the News And Events Calendar page, with a link to the proper page.
Non-Active Research
Post research topics which have had significant research and are no longer active.
- Alloys
- Status: We are able to produce a number of alloys in reasonable quantities. However some alloys (particularly the multiple dope alloys) are probably using inefficient methods. There may also be more unknown alloys. (updated Feb 08)
- Information: Alloy Guide
- Researchers:
- Cooking
- Status: Cooking has been very well modeled there are sometimes new cookables that need to be tested and if people are interested in current potency values they need to do testing. (updated Feb 08)
- Information Cooking Guide
- Researchers: Quizzical
- Pollution
- Status: Clinker Pollution has been discovered and reproducibly documented. (updated Feb 08)
- Information: Pollution
- Researchers: oDiS
Possible Future Research
These are possible areas which could use research. Feel free to add anything that isn't well understood.
- Mining
- Carrot Wave Tracking
- Fumeology - Teppy said in T2 Amensty that Fumelogy was extremely deep, and that we only discovered a small part of it yet.
- Beer - a number of yeasts have not been tested with wheat beers, and we still lack recipes for very potent nutmeg and most spicy dry beers.
