Khartoum Welcoming Guild
Hello new immigrants. This post, over at on the atitd.net forum, is one of the best introductions to the game. If you are not sure about the game be sure to read it, be warned however, it is a bit long. Citizenship is a good step by step guide to completing the steps required for citizenship. But if you like to discover things yourself, you might think it contains too many spoilers. Another good wiki page is Introduction.
Rules of Conduct has some boring but important stuff.

Purpose
To help new immigrants so the Khartoum Region by helping them with Citizenship and the first few levels. In conjuction with this we also sponsor the Public Works in the area so beginning citizens and the general public
can have access to more advanced technology. Most of the buildings in the Public Works are usable by all, a few may be limited to members in the KWG (this practice is subject to review, possibly all buildings will be public in the future).
Rankings
- Initiate - After a Peasant has been in the game for a total of 2 hours, or he becomes a citizen, he will be accepted into the guild. All trial accounts will remain at Initiate level.
- Associate - Any Citizen with a paid account will become an Associate.
- Member - Any Citizen who is level 5 or a Student of any discipline will be promoted to Member. At this stage some voluntary contributions to the guild in the form of bricks and boards for expansion or upkeep of the Public Facilities is encouraged. New members of higher level that first join the guild will join at this level with exceptions.
- Kinsmen - At level 10 a member usually has joined another guild. The member may resign from the guild, or may decide to take on more responsibilites and remain in the guild. These responsibiities fall in two areas, the member may choose one or both. 1) Upkeep of the Public Facilities and expansion of the Guild or 2) Beginning to take an active role in Mentorship.
- Fellow - a long time member of the guild who has proven her willingness to contribute to the Public Facilities. Usually at this stage if a member is active in Mentorship she will be promoted to Elder so she may accept new immigrants into the guild.
- Patriarch - Members who have taken on a the role to care for a section of KWG and organize the facilities within which may include new equipment and/or events.
- Elder - Any member active in Mentorship will be an Elder so that he may accept new immigrants into the guild
Mentoring
If you are working around the red banner (near S Arch) and have your allow immigrants flag on (found under Utility, Options:Interface) you will attract new immigrants. This includes the Public Works area. So if you are too busy to talk to new immigrants you should turn your flag off.
Greeting an Immigrant
Remember, a new immigrant is probably ignorant of the interface. What may seem rude to you, like not even saying hello may be because they can't find the right chat box. Also they may stand around for a while, while the system downloads graphics or they are exploring their menu items. It is best to walk up to them and say hello in "Main" if they don't answer you may want to make sure you are in front of them and say hello again, so they see it on the screen. If after a few minutes there is no response, and you have things to do, open up a chat box with them, say hello in the chat box and say they can ask questions here. Also remember when you try to talk to them, even though you are talking on main or in a personal chat, they may answer in Regional, so be sure to check there.
Things a new immigrant should know
- How to become a citizen
- What to do after citizenship i.e. visit all schools and universities, begin working on Disipline Inits
- Don't be in a hurry to locate your permanent compound. If you want to get your Architecture init, use the public facilities to quickly build and expand it, get the Init, then tear it down. Possibly ask another person to tear it down that has Salvage skills.
- If you build a permanent compound, please ask first if any other compounds are near
- Please tear down your citizenship buildings

KWG Public Works
The public works is intended as a place where new immigrants can learn how to operate different buildings and where members can multi-task. If you wish to mass produce a certain item, you may find that the equipment at OKRA is easier to use.
Any time you operate any piece of equipment voluntary donations are requested to make it easier to replace those items that crumble.
If any piece of equipment is not public, and not noted as such below, please let an Elder know.
Other outdoor equipment may be found scattered around the complexes or behind other guilds for convenience of use. To date that includes firepits watermines offsite refinerys (smelting ore and mining food etc) and kitchens for use out in the Region. We have added in the past an Essence of Harmony and more recently a Conflict Shrine which can be found near or around the Chariot stop for convenience sake.
* equipment is public, if you leave items on it they may be gone when you get back. If you find items on it, please put them in the Kinsman or other appropriate chest
KWG Arts Complex
KWG has expanded over time to cover public equipment for more advanced uses and in particular the Art & Thought discplines. A new and Mammoth Build is now located West of KWG along the road at (245 -6142). This building houses various publicly accessible equipment plus a tasting table and is next door to the public Raeli oven. If you like to dable in the art of fireworks or paint this is the place for you!
Main Building
- Carpentry Shop(3) - if you break a blade and cannot replace it, please let someone know. The westernmost shop has a vice bench installed.
- Charcoal Hearth and Charcoal Oven* - I had originally intended to build another Oven, but they seem difficult enough that I'm not sure anyone will try operating two at once. The hearths are easier to operate as a pair. Should I build another hearth? Leave one of each?
- Chemistry Laboratory - unkown at this time, never used one. Feel free to do so yourself if you can.
- Chest? -
- Clinker Vat - The public vat is a petrol fueled vat. Petrol is available for group stirs as KWG holds a share in the Khartoum Deepwell Association as well for this very purpose.
- Glazier's Bench(3)* - Each bench has a full pool of 19 melted glass. One is for soda, one normal and one jewel glass. Don't try to empty the glass, only an elder can do it and I see no reason it will ever be done. If you leave a pool with more than 19 melted glass, it may be used up by another person.
- Glory Hole - if you have the glass items required, feel free to experiment or make items with this. The only guide I have found is from Tale 2 and is here. But it does not cover the different modes of heating which is new to Tale 3.
- Grain Oven - unknown at this time, I've never used one.
- Hackling Rake* - if it crumbles please replace it if you can. If not, notifiy someone. Nails can usually be found in the Kinsman chest
- Hand Loom*
- Improved Brick Rack(10)* - loacted in the center so you can make bricks from anywhere in the compound.
- Kettle(3)*
- Kitchen - a place for anyone to experiment with cooking, or make some of the unique items made here (coconut water, cabbage juice etc.). If there is food left in the cookpot, it can be tasted, eaten or thrown away by anyone.
- Mason's Bench*
- Pottery Wheel(3) - if you are working in KWG, please try to occasionally reach over and give the wheels a spin to make more jugs. You can leave wet jugs on the wheels. You can usually find clay in the Initiates chest. If you have extra clay and the initiates chest is short, please donate it there.
- Rock Saw*
- Sheep Pen(2) - One sheep pen is left empty. It can be used by anyone and is intended to be used as a slaughterhouse for wild sheep. The other sheep pen is limited to associates (paid) members and above. Currently we are trying to keep the level at 2 males and 2 females. If you see more than that, you are free to slaughter the extra and take the materials. Materials left in the pen may be taken by anyone. Exception, leave the onions in the pen please. If you take materials from the pen, a donation of onions to the pen would be appreciated. If the level of onions rises consistantly above 1000, we may change the desired sheep level to 3/3 and more 'babies' will be generated.
- Small Distaff(3)*
- Sturdy Tub* - please do not use to rot flax. When making saltpeter, it is best to put in 100 dung and keep filling the tub with water as it evaporates. The tub will probably be moved to a different location once it crumbles.
- True Kiln(4) - if one crumbles please replace it if you can. If not ask how it is done. Firebricks can ususally be found in the "Brick making materials" chest behind the kilns. A new chest should probably be made to store firebricks. After you are done with the kiln, try to leave the bottom chambe full of wood, the top chamber should be left empty. If you have a partial load of a wet material, put wet firebricks in the Brick making materials chest, wet jugs in the Initiates chest. Looking at this it is probably too complicated. As soon as kiln number 4 crumbles and is replaced, moved next to the others, a wet jugs and firebricks chest will be made.
- Wood Treatment Tank*
Rotproof Nontoxic Boards: 35 water, 35 sulfur, 30 beeswax, 40 water
Rotproof Termite-Resistant Blonde Boards: 80 oil, 40 beeswax, 60 sulfur, 10 saltpeter, 10 petroleum
Blacksmith Compound
- Anvil - A set of tools is necessary to work at the anvil. As it is still difficult to obtain metal for the tools, they are kept in a chest accessable only to Kinsman and above. If you cannot access the tools ( a Kinsman or above may at his discretion, lend you the tools ) you will need to make your own. See this Blacksmithing page for more tool info.
- Fleet Furnace - The only non public building in the blacksmith area at this time. It takes about 28 real time hours to make one vial of Quicksilver. Right now the plan is to run the building all the time, and trade the quicksilver to others for the material cost. The Quicksilver available for trade is in the Kinsman chest, and they go for 20 charcoal and 10 red sand or 30 charcoal. If you notice the furnace inactive, take the quicksilver and drop it in the Kinsman chest, and if you can take out 10 red sand from the Kinsman chest and 20 charcoal and restart the furnace. The furnace is limited to Kinsman at this time. Once we get an inventory of Quicksilver, we'll lower the requirement.
- Master's Casting Box* - Use only if you must for the large expensive items. Otherwise use the Student's Casting Box and save charcoal.
- Master's Forge* - Use only if you must for the large expensive items. Otherwise use the Student's Forge and save charcoal. There is NO Nail Mould, Pinch Roller or Extrusion Plate on this forge.
- Reactory - If you want good results you or someone needs to be at the Reactory just prior to the finish of the process. It takes 9 - 10 hours. See this alloys research page
- Smelting Pot*- check this page for funace info. Should we have any of the other types?
- Student's Casting Box* - better to use this instead of the Master's Casting Box if you can.
- Student's Forge* - better to use this instead of the Master's Forge if you can. Besides it is the only forge with Nail Mould, Pinch Roller or Extrusion Plate.
Art Complex
- Acid Bath - Due to the nature of acid baths and the fact that salts need to be made over time this is limited to members of the KWG
- Alembic*
- Assimilation Bath* Both the assimilation bath and the alemic are used in the process of alchemy for information on alchemy please see Alchemy
- Barrel Grinder*
- Barrel Vice* We have two of these for those people who like to do more then one barrel at a time and because we made too many materials :)
- Chemistry Laboratory*
- Ceremonial Tasting Table* Our goal is to hopefully have wine to taste on the table all of the time (we are still working on this but usually there is something to sip. Hopefully you get a point from it. If you need a wine tasting notebook simply run west up the road to the School of Body and pick one up.
- Crematory* For information about our specific crematory go here Crematory
- Gem Cutting Table* Table has been upgraded with find balance. If you would like to know more about gem cutting please see the guild here Gem Cutting its a good place to start.

Also inculded but duplicated mainly for convenience are carpentry benches, casting boxes, forges, hackling rakes, distaffs, hand looms, kettles, kitchens, grain ovens, malting tables and a charcoal oven among other things. These items are not there for mass production but for use with running machines on site or for the resources needed to create items in the main items housed using the building.
- Raeli Oven* We have 2 public ovens one located at 200 -6125 (Khartoum) & was built the first day or so after the "craze" of ovens started when it was realized that many people may never have access to any ovens. The second is located at 904 -5555 The colours these oven have to offer are as follows;
Oven at 200 -6125
Snow, White Smoke, Seashell, Linen, Misty Rose, Antique White, Gainsboro, Pink,
Light Pink, Tan, Felspar, Indian Red, Sienna, Saddle Brown, Maroon.
Oven at 904 -5555
Snow, White Smoke, Seashell, Linen, Antique White, Gainsboro, Light Grey, Thistle, Silver, Tan, Rosy Brown,
Feldspar, Indian Red, Sienna, Saddle Brown, Dark Olive Green, Dark Slate Gray
Prebaked tiles are available in small quantities to members who are building mosaics etc. On occassion sometimes other colours are traded into our small tile collection for members to use for the small projects. For obvsious reasons we ask everyone wanting large quantities of tiles to bake them on their own. In this case "large" is anything over 20
tiles. (the chest is found near the oven at 200 -6125)
KWG Museum
This is a building for people to build their Art and Thought displays in. We even have a curator. If you want to put a puzzle or art item in the museum simply contact a Patriarch or Elder of KWG and apply to the guild. After acceptance you can place your items in the museum. For more detailed information please contact Shiva as he is doing the nitty gritty of organization if you aren't sure what to do. Happy painting and puzzlemaking :+)
