Global Mentoring : Player Guide
This section is still a work in progress - expect ongoing addition and improvement of content!
Welcome to the Global Mentoring Player wiki. These guides have been designed primarily for use as part of the Global Mentoring guild and it's processes, so a lot of the guide is slanted towards our setup. However, most of the guides, suggestions and information are globally useful, and are definitely worth a read.
If you've been sent here by one of the Global Mentoring mentors, they should already have explained some of the basics of the game, and helped you get settled in at one of our regional centers.
What happens now is up to you! Our experience tells us that the best way to find your place in the game is to find out exactly what you enjoy doing in it, and to become part of a community where you can share that skill, whilst having others share their own individual skills and expertise.
As such, this section of the wiki aims to help you find your own feet, and to help to you establish yourself in the wider world. After a couple of weeks, you'll know exactly what you're doing in Egypt, and be part of a flourishing community. To reach that point, we've designed a series of 'branches' of a 'progression tree'. These help to give a feel for various parts of the game, and work well alongside the 'principles' tasks that you'll gain from the schools and universities in game. The branches can be found further down this page.
Current News
Ongoing
- You're likely to hear a lot about a disease or plague in Egypt. Thankfully, trial accounts are immune. However, paid accounts are susceptible to coughing fits and reduced stats, and are extremely infectious.
Our Guides
We recognize that there's an awful lot of information to take in here, and we realize that if you tried to read all of it before you start, you're going to be falling asleep over your brick racks. However, a lot of it is very useful, and can save a lot of effort for yourself and your mentor.
We recommend keeping these pages open while you play the game and work through your Progression Branches.
- Lore And History : Find out a little about the history and background of the world in which you live.
- General Pointers : General pointers about behavior, etiquette, and safe practice!
- Maps : Get an overview of what's where, where you mind find basic, public and natural resources, and a handy reference guide for not getting lost...
- Schools And Universities : What's the difference between the two, and how does this affect me?
- University Run : What's available from where at what levels? Be sure to double check in advance that a skill is research and available at the university you're planning to visit!
- Traveling? : What are Chariots? How do I warp?
- Communication : Listen in on Egypt's premier radio stations, keep track of the latest news, and find the most buzzing chat guilds - plus keep track of your friends!
- Tips, Tricks, n' Tools : Handy time savers and information to make your life a little easier, and save a little time & effort - as well as lists of people who'll trade you higher end products for lower end materials!
- Traders : Getting hold of certain types of materials is quite difficult until much later on in the game. Thankfully there are people out there who'll trade mid-to-high level bits and pieces for very cheap and newbie-friendly rates!
The Branches
As mentioned above, Global Mentoring attempts to help players gain a general understanding of the game and its core mechanics, as well as introducing players to specialist trades so as to give them the necessary skills and experience to help them to discover and secure their own path through Egypt. As such, your goal is to complete the 'General' branch of our Progression Tree, and at least one 'Specialist' branch. You are welcome to do more!
The General Branch

- Use some of the guild Jugs to gather clay, to make Wet Clay Jugs on a pottery wheel, and then fire up to 12 at once in a True Kiln. Make 20 or so for yourself, and a few extra to put back into the guild chest. Jugs have a habit of disappearing!
- NOTE: You can get a free jug from SThought by asking to learn the Pottery skill.
- Learn to make Charcoal by operating one or more of either a Firepit, a Charcoal Hearth, or a Charcoal Oven.

- NOTE: The region of Karnak tends to be more up to date with technology than most. Check with the wiki to see what's available where.
- NOTE: Check out our University Run page to see what's available at what levels. Be sure to double check in advance that a skill is research and available at the university you're planning to visit!

- "Give something back"
Find a way to give something back to the Global Mentoring guild - whether it's bricks and boards, assistance in building new facilities, replacement of 'newbie pack' resources, or anything else!
The School of Harmony will give you 'decrees' for each your first 4 levels, which you can give to players that you feel have been particularly helpful in getting you settled in on the island and mainland. These help mentors progress in the Test Of Mentorship, and are a wonderful way to say 'Thank you!'.

- Making a profit from trading with The Goods is difficult when you're just starting out (the profit margins can be small, the prices change quickly, it requires an knowledge of relative worth, and tellers can be hard to find)
